RIP

When he left for WWll at 20 years old and just married the girl he loved since they were 10 years old, he told her he was leaving to get a pack of gum. He didn't want to say "I'm leaving for war and don't know when I'll be back"  Every day for the rest of her life she carried a pack of gum with her. A true hero.

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God....

While this was all discussed above and Ceptorman nailed it with "High Flight," I am moved to commemorate the passing of a true American hero I am proud to have shared existence on this earth with, John Glenn. In the dictionary next to "the right stuff."  Poem copied from Ceptormann above, picture about my favorite of this true giant of a man.

Godspeed, John Glenn!
