Mighty Favog
Completely impractical but fun to think about.... http://www.lebanonford.com/the-727-hp-mustang.htm
Schu
that's off the shelf goods... nothing really special about it. The S550 responds very well to forced induction where whipple, kenny bell or twin turbos WITHOUT much modification. 727 is a crank quote and is probably an honest 640-650 at ths wheels... though even more is accessible. Fwiw, the N/A s550s are running low 10 second quarter miles @135-135 with chassis set up and slight engine modifications.

JJkizak
They are using all the stuff we used to do to make cars faster like we did in the 50's and 60's. JJK
Mighty Favog
Thing is, yes, this was done with off the shelf parts AND it has a factory backed warranty. The price isn't bad either. With the 17' Shelby GT350 starting at $54,845 MSRP.... I'm sure this was a motivator by Ford to sell off the 16' inventory. I remember hearing earlier this year that the Ford plants were no longer producing Mustangs because of dropping sales numbers.

Quiet_Hollow
Just not keen on the romantic view of that era, nor that only a handful of people were somehow privy to what constituted off-the-shelf automobile performance of the same. Many of the famous names were simply blessed with more capital/access/notoriety at a particular time. Tweaking IC engines has been going on since their inception. Nothing special about years past, nor what's coming down the pipeline so long as it has a piston and a crank. It's all well within the box.
