Received this meter today, and got out a bunch of new and old caps to measure.  Measured several values at test frequencies 100hz, and 1Khz.  All of these were on my bench and not in circuit.  What I would like to have is a couple of older caps that Bob has measured on his meter, so that I can compare to my meter readings.  I think this would be a good way to confirm accuracy.

Looks like it has enough resolution to pick out bad caps, but not enough to really evaluate good caps.  Also, might as well just standardize the test for 1000hz for crossover caps.

Bob, what would be a good ESR reading for a 2uf, 4uf, 8uf, etc, etc?  I realize it's dependent on the value, but do you happen to have a basic chart, or just in your head?  Would you consider all of the Aerovox readings above bad?

Well I think it certainly tells you if a cap is good or bad.  To really read the good caps, seems to me it needs another digit of resolution.  The Aerovox read like I usually find them.  All the 2 uF are pretty bad like I usually find them.  I think ESR becomes pretty easy to hear at above 0.5 ohms.

I like it, it's plenty good enough. It would allow me to test new caps before I use them to make sure they aren't shorted, or have a measurement that makes the quality suspect.

I have no interest in measuring old capacitors - I already know they're toast.

All the caps you measured appear to be within 10%, new or used. Depending on the manufacturer's tolerances, they're likely within spec and those measured numbers are not unusual. I don't see anything wrong with them.

I've had the DE-5000 for a while.  Only drawback...the short alligator test leads,  Bought this, hoping it would fit the DE-5000, and it does.

Main issue with this though, is the clips don't grip very hard and the cable is pretty stiff.  But the added length comes in handy.

Yes, the short alligator leads are a pain.  Would love to have longer leads, but $83 is a bit much for what I need it for.  So far, I've found it's a pretty good meter.
