Then there is the question of the sonic benefits of aged wood, as a guitar, does the speaker's cabinet improve sonically as it ages?

I'm guessing not since these are MDF and it really doesn't change over the years like solid "real" wood. Just my guess though.

Weren't the older cabinets plywood, rather than MDF?

I believe they put a veneer on the inside and outside of the cabinet, but still the core is mdf

Interesting...I wonder why they did that?  To add some rigidity and damping?  Seems like a costly step to add veneer to the internal surface.

I saw wood grain on the inside of the motorboard and sides when I had them open, so just assumed they were plywood.

The question I have for @Chief bonehead is how does he feel the new Forte III's stack up against his original design of the V1 Epic CF-4 speakers and what thought process went into a totally new design like the Epics versus honoring the legacy and original design intent of the Forte?

I'm still torn with the idea of Fort III vs the KI-396 and assume we may here them both at the Pilgrimage.  I'm highly motivated to buy the Forte III.....but I hope it isn't easily bested by the 396.
