The holy grail of PVC and Plastic lubrication PDF

Silicone is starting to look like a winner

Anyone out there who can do a bake off

removing and examine the stylus for accumulation of lubricant

I'm guessing zero with silicone

Bubo, I wonder if WD 40 has any effect on the stylus ( bonding agent ). I use it sometimes to remove TAR from my hands. I'm never w/o it, & have cans in various locations- Truck, Garage, Basement & under the kitchen sink. I'm going to give it a try. Just never crossed my mind to try it, Thanks

PS, maybe George could try it first & report back to us? LOL

My thoughts exactly

WD40 ingredients are a trade secret but it smells like petrochemicals

So that alone may be bad for the glue that holds the diamond on the canter lever

Well, sometimes new vinyl that I bought comes with a film on it & not even my Ultrasonic cleaner can remove it. I know the WD 40 will. I'm not in the mood to spend another $700.00 on a nos AT 150 mlx, or my $1000.00 Hana.

Found this article of the ingredient breakdown

Wired sent a can to the lab and got the ingredients. Mineral Oil Seriously. WD-40 is mostly a mix of baby oil, Vaseline, and the goop inside homemade lava lamps. Decane WD-40 contains an abundance of alkanes—hydrocarbons that match […]

Brilliant

Also leans towards Silicone

Is name brand aka Dupont any better than brand x silicone

Purity, granularity etc

Exactly what properties are we looking for in our Silicone ?

Hope all record ( darksiders ) tragic's will follow my lead and post on this new Vinyl / Record spinning thread

So to kick it off I will post one of the very first albums I purchased - and I had to order it

Don't you listen to electronic music on vinyl?
What genres are your favourites in general?
I'm pleasantly surprised to see such a topic of conversation here. Thank you.

Dupont NO stick liquid $5

appears to be a dry teflon coating

that could be applied to the stylus

Might be an interesting experiment with an old, but usable stylus

Teflon coat the stylus

Silicone coat the LPs

Me too @KROCK used turgikleen in my ultrasonic then rinsed, six months later lps were still quiet and static free, my $$ stylus still clean.

Welcome to our world @JordanWex

Just in case you didn't realize the op is on the other side of the globe, might not hear back from him until he is up & at `em again!

I'm curious why anyone would apply Silicone or any other lubricant's to vinyl. If anything you would just want them as clean as possible, No?

Reduce friction, drag, on the needle which may show up as noise.

You could also argue it reduces wear on a record.

I'm interested to experiment.

From reading the articles on PVC and record making, there is lubricant added to the PVC used in records, for mold release, but it does remain on or in the record. Cleaning may eliminate the lubricant..

Thus need to replace it

Micro line,

Fine Line,

whatever the manufacturer calls it.

The shape that fits the grooves will not incur damage and actually will pick up more of the recorded sound imprinted in the groove. Some of my LPs from the 70s still sound new because I never used an elliptical or any awful styli on them.
