Hi, I am new to this forum and need your help. I need to connect the speaker cables from Mcintosh MC240 to Klipshorn speakers. There are 4 outputs: COM, 4, 8, 16. How do I connect?

Thank you!

and 2 pairs of these

I say, use 4 ohms.

One reason is that the K-Horn goes down to 4 ohms and we want to keep the amp happy.  Generally they perform best when they are not loaded below their output design.

The second is that amp noise will be be lower at the stepped down 4 ohm tap.

There is no benefit to monster wire.

I use COM (-) and 8 but you can see whether you like 4 or 8 better you won't hurt anything.

Thank you all for your replies. So I use COM and 8 to connect to the speakers.

Yes start with the 8 ohm taps. But as stated you can also try the 4 ohm taps and see if you like it better. You will not hurt the amp or the speakers.

"So are you saying that you can get better sound on the 4 ohm tap with Klipsch speakers and tube amps?"

At low volumes a speaker always plays loudest on the 8 and 16 ohm taps. As you turn up the volume and 'thump' it a bit you will find the speaker sounds the best on the tap that closest matches its impedance, and plays the loudest too.

Always try the 4 ohm tap. Leave it on whatever sounds the best.

Hint: it sounds 'thin' when you turn it up if you have it hooked to too high of a tap.
