Here's my dilemma; pretty much blew my wad on the spkrs so only have $500-$700 left for an amp to drive them till I save more $$! What should I get? (* And where do I find it please!). Thanks!! I believe that some have used a HK *30 (430/730/etc...(I don't know the exact model number) HK is Harmon Kardon Anyway some have used it with very nice results. There will be better educated opinions from others. Congrats on the purchase!!! I think Rosewood Khorns were one of the early exposures I had to them and other than the Macassar Ebony, have always been one of my first choices (that I could never find) You know what I'm about to say? Stainz Posted May 17, 2017 Share Posted May 17, 2017 I replaced my vintage Heresys' amp, an Emotiva a-100 mini-X 50 Wpc power amp with a single input and a volume control, with the current version of the power amplifier, the A-100 BasX (Still 50 Wpc with a headphone jack and now 110dB S/N.). The earlier Emotiva amp is currently in my upstairs bonus/hobby room where it drives my RB-81ii's quite well. Each system is music only and has it's own Onkyo C-7030 CDP. The newest Emo amp and Heresys are plenty loud - and clean - in my 11' x 12' x 9' home office. These are well made and nicely packaged, despite the fact that they are 'entry level' offerings. Actually, those Heresys also were well driven by my recent Onkyo 50 Wpc receiver (TX-8020 stereo 2.1 receiver ~$150!), but it was returned to it's mini 2.1 HT use driving a pair of R-15M's and a JBL SUB 550P sub-woofer at my workbench on the other side of the bonus/hobby room. If you don't need a remote I highly suggest trying one of these out. This is too expensive but here's what they look like. I was afraid an inexpensive 150w amp would sound brutish or sloppy on sensitive speakers but it has a lot of delicacy and finesse. Internal fans are an interesting design choice, but it never even gets warm, so I've never had them turn on. I don't have an Emotiva preamp (I'm still using my old Adcom) but if I were looking for a new preamp I'd probably go to them first, based on my experience with the amp. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
