wvu80
I'm looking for a remote control for the living room. It would have to control the Phillips HDTV, the Sony BD player, Onkyo TX-NR717 AVR. The wife would need to operate it so it has to be simple to use. Line of sight for 25 feet no problem. Budget $125, more or less. Threads for remotes on this forum have been done here before but technology continues to evolve. I am thinking of a Harmony remote of some kind and I saw one that "works with Alexa." I don't even know what that means, or if it is something I want. I do like voice command but I am unfamiliar with how these things work with remotes. I would also like recommendations if these remotes work with smart phones, or if a smart phone is an alternative. I don't currently have a smart phone and I am not wanting to buy a $600 TOTL model but if I could sink the remote budget into a smart phone I might consider it. Here are a couple in my price range. https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-Ultimate-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B00N3RFCBE/ref=pd_sim_23_8?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00N3RFCBE&pd_rd_r=7CPZRSFHJYNJY639WC55&pd_rd_w=Q364x&pd_rd_wg=jEMAX&psc=1&refRID=7CPZRSFHJYNJY639WC55 https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-Companion-Control-Entertainment/dp/B00N3RFC4G/ref=pd_cp_23_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00N3RFC4G&pd_rd_r=P888TDWJS4G23Y7VQD7S&pd_rd_w=Dova8&pd_rd_wg=fGPY0&psc=1&refRID=P888TDWJS4G23Y7VQD7S Here is the Best Sellers list from Amazon for Remote Controllers https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Electronics-Audio-Video-Remote-Controls/zgbs/electronics/173244/ref=zg_bs_nav_e_3_3230976011
USNRET
If you have a PC with Win 7 or XP I have a Harmony 900 you can have. Will not connect with Win 10
derrickdj1
This is what I use in the HT and upstairs family room. It is easy to use and if someone can't figure out how to cut on something, just press the help button. This is wife and kid friendly. There is no need to buy a remote that controls 15 things if you don't need it. Something that does 6-8 devices is OK. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LYSC2C1/ref=dp_cerb_3

The default goes into Win 10 but the other goes into Win7, so I can access Windows 7. Still good to go?
