Bashing a competitor's product, about which you know absolutely nothing, is very distasteful at best.  I can't imagine it is elevating your status in the minds of prospective customers.

Weisfeld and Leung have clearly stated that the chassis and faceplate are made in China and that it contains parts from various Asian countries (it has been a long time since the COO of the "American" parts which I constantly purchase is USA).  The amps are built here in NJ, not in China.

That said, the OP is thrilled with his purchase which is all that matters.  I don't see the point of debating anything else as it is not relevant.  And, for all we know, in a side by side comparison with a restored "real" 299D, the VPI may sound much better.

First off mind your own business...you are not in anyway my keeper, adviser or whatever it is you think your are.... I never bashed the product I bashed the blantantly false advertising claims... You know what.....if you don't like it don't read it..

Consider this your official warning. Bother me again and I will complain to the moderators. GOT IT

Heh... You really need to learn to say what you think.

As they say I am what I am....straight shooter all the way..... at this stage of the game with my absolute astonishing success in my little home based business I see no reason to change for the few faint at heart, hold there hands, high maintenance politically correct crowd that I'd rather not have for customers in the first place!

I call them like I see them!

Besides this forum is a form of relaxation and has nothing to do with business promotion those days are and have been long gone....the only ones getting away with that these days are the weak at heart hypocrites that use the forum to promote there hobby businesses that they don't have the balls to make a real business.

For the record no one has contacted me but I am reading the thread.  If it gets down to a personal level (which it's heading) I'll lock it with apologies to the OP.  Hopefully there's enough respect here for the OP not to be selfish enough to cause his thread to be locked.  Take the pissing contests to PM's where I can't see them.

Wow shots have been fired look out!!

Nosvalves should have the right to voice his opinion on whether or not he thinks the amp is a POS or not, even if at the poor OP's expense. The OP should be happy with his purchase regardless of what others think, and to be honest it seems there is only one person pooping on the amp so that should tell us something.  Maynard clearly has touched a nerve with one of his comments but I don't know enough to see the harm in his statements, again I defend free speech. However I am glad a moderator has stepped in to get this thread back on track as I am very interested in the amp and not anyones home business or ramblings about the way our current tech production has ended up. Trust me, I hate the fact that almost everything is made in  China, or more specifically assembled in China. A lot of high quality components going into things actually come from Japan or Germany et cetera. Products are designed in the states or Europe and all the parts are sent from various places around the globe to China to be assembled. We here in the US seem to just consume. Good thing I still use equipment from back before color TV!!  Made in the good old USA!!   I think I will hook up some Fairchild 255a's tonight :)

This may be a long shot but I can't be the only one that likes amp porn here, I would love to see the inside of the amp to see the craftsmenship and parts selection. If the OP can find it in his heart and the time to open her up it would be much appreciated. It sure is a beautiful looking piece of gear.

You should have heard the comments I got when I posted my first tube amp... one that was  built by Dennis had none the less... OMG.

All this as I seriously contemplate getting a set of mono's, most likely vrd's.

I hope that popcorn came covered in yellow chemical sludge and sodium chloride.

Just to be clear.....I HAVE NEVER SAID ONE THING IN REFERENCE to the quality or lack there of on this product. The only thing I have stated is the advertising and story line is a complete crock of shit! In fact I told the OP that I bet the product is darn nice. VPI never sells or markets low end/low quality gear but just like the majority of 21st century companies they evidently could careless what tactics they use to market the products.

READ Folks but don't read things into someones words that are just not present. read, read, read..... but not between the lines. I bet the amplifier is darn nice and could have been marketed on its own merits rather then a completely different product in every regard.

I did read and that's why I added the "or not" part of the sentence. There was clear disdain for the product from your corner and I wasn't sure if it was aimed at the marketing or the actual product. Thank you for clarifying it's the marketing you dislike.

Hey no problem exists between us. I actually appreciate your acknowledgement that I indeed have a right to my opinion. Many folks seem to think because I'm in the audio business I should forfeit or surrender that becoming some type of puppet that only states the most politically correct crap to make the all mighty dollar... To me that is flat out hypocrisy...reminds me of a slimy used car salesman...

Again folks need to realize I'm not here to create or promote my business I'm here as a person just like some of you ;) I already have plenty of work without doing a thing to go out a get it.

Schu, I have had three pair of VRD's, I know them well. You will NEVER be disappointed!

A beautiful vacuum tube integrated amplifier. I bet you're enjoying it Big Star.

Fellow fans of the worderful marriage of tubes and horns, it was never my intention to kick the nest with this post.

This whole 2 channel journey started for me and my love for vinyl. After scoring my Fortes for a song I have tried to find a suitable

amp to match. This amp, although nothing like the original Scott in appearance or build spec, really stood out for me and knowing that there was never going to be more than 100 units built the resale value would be there in the future. I also understand that unlike VPI TT's, this amp is not 100% made in America nor does it make that claim anywhere on the product. I will say, if you get a chance have a listen to this amp on some horn speakers I hope you find it as impressive as I do. This finally might be the "one".

thx

Trust me, you did not kick the nest at all, and I'm glad that you knew (as did I) that VPI was totally forthright about the amp.  A very quick look online would have revealed this to anyone who had doubts about their marketing integrity.  Companies like VPI have a great deal to lose if they try to dupe their patrons.  I can't imagine they would ever consider anything but total honesty, unlike some other purveyors of audio gear.

Enjoy the amp and don't let anyone "rain on your parade."  Your opinion of its value is the only one which matters.

I'm glad you're enjoying your very nice vacuum tube integrated amplifier. I bet it sounds wonderful. Don't let negative postings bother you, especially when you're sharing a component you own and enjoy. I'm okay with some criticism, but find the majority of the negative postings not worth my time anymore.

You are a top bloke! Cheers!!

I was looking at your VRD amps, they look nice. I typically procure vintage pieces which I see you restore. It's nice to see folks keeping the oldies going.
