cgolf70
This is probably one of those, does it really matter or is there really a standard answer, questions. I can use either pair of these speakers as my surrounds with a pair of RP-280 fronts. I know the 160s mate better with the 280s but is there really going to be that much difference using either pair for surrounds? I can send the 160s back for a full refund if there isn't going to be that much difference. That is my plan right now but I wanted to check first to see if I was missing some important difference in the 2 sets.
RX8
I've got RP160's for my fronts and love the sound. I picked up a pair of RB61 II on promo from Frys and have been using those for surround and I have no complaints at all. I would have liked RP160's all around but the RB's were less than 1/2 the price.
derrickdj1
In many systems you will not here a difference. This is even less of an issue with Pioneer avr with the Front align calibration option. Then there are some people that have to have all the speakers from the same line.
Scrappydue
Front ported 61ii that can hang flush on wall get my vote. They should have not rear ported the 160's.
derrickdj1
Good point on not rear porting speakers that may end up wall mounted!
cgolf70
Sent the 160s back for a full refund. The 61s sound great and I can place them all the way back against the rear wall. Now I can take that $$ and find some vintage Heresys or whatever...
