I’m curious of your impressions of both. I have a pair of the Crites I’ve not had time to try out. LSI are a bit more effort to put them in.

Crites are just OEM replacements... don't expect sonic enhancement beyond original specifications.

Original Specifications were always pretty good. If they are referring to the A4500 x over, it is OEM with a twist. The upper end of the mid range is crossed over at 4500 instead of the original 6000hz. With the proper tweeter, this could make the LS sound a little less harsh as 6000 was pushing the upper limits of the K400 horn to help reduce wear on the K77 tweeter. Klipsch later on lowered the x over point when using a different tweeter. I've tried it and liked it. Don't know how much to attribute to the xover point or the new caps as I replaced a very old set of crossovers. Definitely worth a try if you got 'em. It's a fun hobby.

I just swapped them into my La Scalas.  I won't have a real chance to see how I like them until tomorrow as the family will be out of town for a few days.  I'll have to re-do my room/equalizer calibration and then probably run sweeps so I can get whatever taps set as flat as I can so my receiver can do the rest.

So...  I actually forgot I bought these a year and a half ago.  We were in the middle of a remodel and the box got put upstairs with a lot of other storage.  Anyway, I have a set of ALK CSW-450's to try!  I want to find if I like these or my Crites A-4500's and then sell the ones I do not keep in the speakers...  Which, holy crap...  Crites has sky rocketed in prices!  I guess I have what would be called "gold" now.

No description available.

Al set the tweeter on these at -2dB and the squaker at -6db and I left as-is for some curiosity REW sweeps.  I'd say it's pretty flat outside of the 150hz hump we all know is present in bass horn, but you can see my Marantz takes it out pretty well.  Also, I actually hadn't run room correction on this with the new crossovers, so the EQ'd line was from when I had the previous crossovers in, but tested with the ALK.

I was really just looking to see how flat they may be so I can know my starting point.  I'll run EQ again and just listen to them for awhile.  I don't hate these.

  • 4 weeks later...

I got a sway bar and made some suspension adjustments and took a swing at doing SCCA RallyX with my RZR as it hadn't been used in like a year and a half.  It was basically a cheat code as I beat everyone by a lot.  :)  I think I'll get some different springs to be able to lower it more and do some more events.
