Snocrazee
Bought a pair new when I was 22 years old. Laminate wood la Scala. I think I paid 1500 but what are they worth now. Type Al crossover in back. Not selling. Just wondering. I want my teenage boys to have these when they get older. Thanks for any suggestions or help. Should I upgrade the crossovers? Wished I could attach a picture. I still have brochure for these speakers too. Edited July 26, 2017 by Snocrazee
DizRotus
Welcome. Depending on condition and location, you could find a willing buyer anywhere between $500 and $2,000. Yes, the crossovers need attention.
Snocrazee
I suppose I should read forum first but any suggestions on crossover upgrade? I'm moving currently so when I get settled I will look into upgrading crossover when I can actually see. Using cell phone now til I get laptops set up at new place. Appreciate the estimate. What is the big difference on newer la Scala?
Snocrazee
Trimmed the pic down finally.
TasDom
You can buy new crossovers or kits from Crites. Or if your handy soldering, just buy capacitors and install yourself. Bob answers his phone and is a great guy to advise you. http://www.critesspeakers.com/prices_-_new_crossovers.html Nice looking La Scala and welcome!

About $5000 more for a pair But, you get brand spanking new speakers and even get to take them out of the boxes.

T2K
Welcome here snocrazee guy. I've always hated the look of LaScalas's but those are really nice.

jimjimbo
If all the surfaces on both speakers are as nice as that one photo, I think you are looking at right around $1500. Keep them dusted and oiled and your kids with forever thank you.
wvu80
Agree with Jim ^^^ on all counts. Last year I sold a pair of 1978 La Scala's for $1400 that looked very much like yours.
Trogdor420
ALK Engineering also makes some pretty fantastic Klipsch Heritage compatible crossovers. I have the CSW networks.http://www.alkeng.com/Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
pat_in_dfw
In most cases replacing the caps is all you need. A complete crossover upgrade is usually only essential when you're changing components, such as the diaphragms that need a different crossover point.
Trogdor420
The CSW is an upgrade from stock. You can attenuate the mid and tweeter independently.Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Tapatalk
JohnA
Type AL crossovers should be chucked into the trash and replaced wholly. MAYBE you can reuse the autoformer on the squawker.
Trentster5172
I sold my 1978's August of 2017 for $1,200. The exterior was a 9.5/10. They had new Crites AA crossovers and they had the rare full factory grills.
mark1101
Different markets are also priced differently. In the north such as NY where lascalas are plentiful I see the prices much lower than in the south like Ga. where they are harder to come by. You may be surprised at what you can get as the prices have been going up, and those look really nice.
