I enjoyed watching the guys do our counter tops last Fall. Very cool tools they used to spread apart two pieces and then pull them back together.

The reason I ask is many years ago I watched about 10 Amish home builders roll a fireplace hearth which was 8' x 3' x 6" thick solid sandstone into the house main doorway and another 75 ' to the fireplace then pick it up and set it on two pedestal mounts on the floor without breaking it.

That's a lot of man power. We carry full slabs sometimes. Bout 1000 pounds. We use wheels but someone still has to lift for a little to get It there. You always carry granite sideways. Never flat, It will break. We use 4 people for big pieces
