Removing Smoke Smell

Electronic cleaner and lots of it, not familiar with this model but I purchased a large vintage receiver that was full of dust and smelled of smoke and oil, I gently sprayed it with electronic cleaner and then gently used q tips and rags to get the majority of the hairy debris out, then doused it with E cleaner and wiped over and over... I used almost a whole can of cleaner, let it dry for 3 days, no more smell, no more oil, no more dust, and it worked for 3 years in my sons system before I sold it....

I was gonna suggest the same thing-electronic cleaner or contact cleaner. Flood it with spray and let it evaporate thoroughly.

Sunlight is also a good disinfectant; now's the time of year to let is bask in the sun for an entire day. That may help.

After thoroughly dusting/cleaning inside and out with your choice of safe cleaners, leave it opened up and let the ultraviolet rays of the sun do it's magic for a couple of days.

I had an NAD 5 channel amp that was literally coated inside and out with the sticky pale yellow nicotine and did the same as I suggested and after there was not even a hint of it's previous condition.

Thanks for your suggestions guys. I do have Radio Shack's Electronics spray cleaner. Didn't think of using it for smoke residue.

Also have Deoxit D5. Is one better than the other for this?

Will also give it a healthy sunlight dose.

Don't use Deoxit

Considering the number and the stacking of boards in these types of receivers, it will likely be quite a chore getting it clean with spray cleaner but give it a try.  A long stent outside would probably be good too.  Probably come back every time it heats up.

Good Luck.

I sent off some gear for rehab, packed carefully, and even bought new sturdy boxes.  When it came back it was so saturated with smoke that I did not bring it in the house until it had been detailed twice.  Threw away the new boxes as they reeked of nicotine.  Imagine what the gents lungs look like:mellow:.

After you get it as clean as possible, put one of those boxes of baking soda behind it...the Arm & Hammer stuff for refrigerator odors...that box has a peel-off pad on it which has a cloth kinda thing that will allow the baking soda to eliminate any odors when the unit warms up.  Having the box somewhere ABOVE (BUT, not right on top of) the upper venting of the unit will work even better.
