College kids and adults range from intellectually lazy to devoted and sometimes brilliant.  All have access to more information, misinformation and disinformation than ever before.  

 

A professor who is a spellbinder can motivate good work from most students.  

 

I was going to invoke the Peter Principle one more time, but the shining example is so obvious that it doesn't require mentioning.

The idea being tossed about is that university professors are all extreme brainwashers of innocent little minds.  That's a boo hoo if I ever heard one.  The fact is that most are simply doing their jobs teaching their specialty and encouraging thought and research.  There are of course a few controversial ones who get all the attention far beyond the confines of their school.   What is missed about this in all of the hoopla and agenda baiting is that the controversial ones cause students and sometimes even townies to actually think about things.  A few controversial profs are better than none, unless of course one's agenda is the brainwashing of students into a conformist mind numbing static and even statist view of the world.  College students are supposed to be mature enough (not fully matured, but enough) to open their minds while using critical thinking skills to evaluate truth, fiction, and theory.  If you believe universities are so harmful, then refuse to pay for your kids tuition, and let them find their own way as under educated waifs.  Don't encourage them to read classic literature either, since it is a waste of time.

 

The larger problem here is one of hypocrisy.  if I had to choose one word to define current times it would be hypocrisy.

 You're sure right about 3 year olds, yet we are not dealing with 3 year olds are we?  When you reward for failure, you can count on volunteer failure later,  especially if it requires no labor and there are benefits to it.  A big portion of the country have been conditioned from crutches and prop ups over the many decades and now they think they deserve more and more and more and all FREE.

 

What exactly do you think the biggest joke of the movement is right?   Poor me, I got shot, yet I reserve the right to attack our LEO's and fight them even if Im unarmed and go for their gun.  

 

Poor me, I scored 300 points less on the SAT than another person, yet I am of different race so get accepted, but they don't.

 

Poor me, I have crap credit, yet I still get a home loan at a subbed level because my credit is in the 500range from really poor credit card decisions.

 

All these breaks given to the Boo Hoo's that are perfectly capable, it just makes them lazy and expecting that leads to entitlement.

 

These were are all movements so to speak, whether socially or government driven that have taken hold and are structured and basically a business now, yet have only caused more poverty and more division throughout all the population. 

 

College is like summer camp for the masses of kids, they will grab any concept and run and follow and the more crazy and unrealistic it is, the better. 

 

The Bible and Belt are all but gone, are we better?

I would totally agree with you, its only the fringe radicals that are out of touch that really taint the water when it comes to the teachers.   Unfortunately, the fringe is bigger than it should be and it usually involves steering the youth and actually punishing them for a different view of said teacher and especially if the student has a traditional outlook.

No, Most come out of their school's being Democratic Socialist.

Their teachers, for the most part are Democratic Socialist

so they are taught this is Good.

That is why free speech is squashed and "wrong thinkers" Banned.

Violence is even encouraged and used if things don't go their way.

After all America is Bad and full of White Surpremacist 

even though I haven't met any or seen them walking downtown

in their freshly laundered sheets.

America must be changed, from the Constitution up and

racist must be delt with and violence is acceptable

when dealing with white supremacist and others who do

not go along with the new way we will be doing things in America.

When npr tweeted this last july, a lot of americans tweeted back to stop this radical socialist crap.  Education is sorely lacking, we need teachers, not a climate of disparaging them.

Yup. We live in the Information Age and I have found out first hand that many of the "older generation,"  still believe in things that are provably not true and some have an antiquated  belief systems...Of course, the adults that continue to learn and debate important topics usually fare better in discussions with the younger generation and everyone can come out more informed and appreciative of opposing views....

 

Honestly, that is the reason I miss the No BS Section so much and especially with so much going on right now. Insofar as any "wussification of college students" is concerned, my guess is their generation will look back at this time in History and realize how screwed up their parents were and wonder what they were thinkin'. :wacko:

I have tried to follow that group and feel their only strength is that opposing political factions think they have power--I had actually never heard of them and feel their 'movement' is overstated in the whole scheme of things.

No I get you, and Im a firm believer in free speech. The problem is many of the past just started these side shows just to honor the fact that we can do them from our freedom. Now we have these  "movements" where we are casting out so called violence only using it to support the cause.  Or we are complaining about racism only to use it to contradict our own effort.

 

Its like no one has a brain or is capable of any basic reasoning

 

Here is another great teacher of a fine college that is no longer because I can't imagine what she was cramming down the student throats.  Its no wonder the kids feel like they have no chance in society and everything is pre=written due to their race.

I'm not sure what you are talking about but I agree that racial issues seem to be tearing this country apart along with several other things including the lack of morality in our elected officials. This ain't a Republican or Democrat thing, It should be an American concern!

Just watch the videos, it defines their hypocrisy.   The videos are painful to watch and hard to get though for for any honest citizen.  Sadly,  these ugly minds are stacked ocean deep on youtube for your viewing.

Hypocrisy, as I stated before, is wide ranging and epidemic.  It is the defining term of American politics today.  There was recently the pro life representative who strongly encouraged his mistress, yes mistress, to get an abortion.  It is everywhere you look.  Keep voting for one of the two controlling private parties, and you will keep getting the same results.
