karlson3
basic sim in 1pi looks pretty good with 12pe32 - - at 0.83X scale, bulk would be around 4.5 cubic feet or so - not sure if everything fits properly at this scale. What's the best drawing of the Belle on this site?
jwc
Out of curiosity, model with same parameters with this driver...... http://www.eminence.com/speakers/speaker-detail/?model=Delta_12LFC
avguytx
I'm using these two files for my Belle cut sheet. Then the free software from www.maxcutsoftware.com for how it's laid out on the 4x8 for optimum cuts. The K510 pdf is from another member who did 1" side panels on the bass bin and re-calculated for the sizing. Neither are my own personal files and I take no credit for them....only appreciation. karlson3
hi JWC - -FWIW, here's what I get for that Delta-12LFC in an 0.83 scale Belle hi avguytx - thank you very much for the plan - with one brace per mouth and its "ramps", 5/8" Baltic birch would be very stiff, strong, and light - probably only weigh around 55lb unloaded. for a compact system - how about a ppsl 6th order sub to reach the baby Belle? are there any midhorn drivers which don;'t cost much besides the Selenium 250X? - are there any cone horn drivers which would keep up? 20 some years ago I had the already old JBL alnico LE5 on Dr. Edgar's 250 tractrix - those were on top of my K-horns as thieves had got the tops and a ton of other stuff. My house at the time was right across from the county jail - lol
boom3
My perspective is that for time, trouble and cost, you could buy a decent pair of Cornwall IIs and have a better result. A folded horn that small is really a lower midrange and as noted needs a sub. I seem to recall that years ago someone on this forum made a set of "truley " baby Belles as computer speakers. There were about 1 cubic foot.
karlson3
I have FH1 and prefer my little Karlson K12 - - - a sub would be added to the baby Belle - - finding an inexpensive but good midrange driver and horn might also be a problem. John Inlow developed a good 135Hz horn - whether a common little powered direct radiator subwoofer would sound good with these higher cutoff "midbass" horns = ? Here's something interesting - drum tuning frequencies. http://tune-bot.com/tuning-guide.html
karlson3
What's a good color for my proposed Baby Belle? "BLUE" ? two tone ? - since no one likes the idea - I'll probably get one built - it will take a high sub to mate - maybe 'round 100Hz (?) karlson3
would you modify the throat opening? - or keep it scaled with 12pe32 ? - if modify - - please elaborate.
karlson3
my builder did a nice job (I requested "glossy" )
avguytx
Looks good. I hope it didn't take him 6 months to build one bass bin or it may be awhile before you get to hear them.
karlson3
- don't have it yet - he probably had it made in one day but there were a lot of other speakers built in that time - he can do something very complex very fast.
pzannucci
Very nice. What will you run for bottom end?
karlson3
dunno - maybe a tapped pipe with 12" car woofer that goes to 20Hz - got so much stuff that there's no room for a real system anymore I wonder how 12pe32 will actually behave in this tiny cabinet ? karlson3
what might I use for a cheap- functional midhorn which isn't deeper with driver than the cabinet? (`15 inches) I've got K700 and K601 horns - don't know how 601's phase plug chamber would behave as a throat chamber when driven with a "normal" compression driver. This scaled Belle was built for me by Triticum Audio (Jesse Brunner) What will a K601's plug chamber which would become a throat chamber do if bolted up to a 1" phenolic like PRV/Selenium? - could attempt to saw that part off but would be messy is there anything cheap you'd recommend? My Paragon horn is deeper than the cabinet (which would be ok if playing outdoors) I might run the little Belle with a 12pe32 Throathttps://i.imgur.com/UwW0Aqt.jpg Back chamber viewshttps://i.imgur.com/6bBkBt1.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/hSwEavW.jpg tight back chamber with foam blocks - that flattens the passband on the low end and keeps unneeded excursion below cutoff to a minimum. There was enough chamber volume to vent, which would have extended the low end. https://i.imgur.com/d7scTkh.jpg Size compared to Lp albumhttps://i.imgur.com/ZSqhMm8.jpg Angle viewhttps://i.imgur.com/3RPeUAn.jpg 1 inch Paragon horn (its deeper than the cabinet)https://i.imgur.com/tSP74rx.jpg Front view with K601 on tophttps://i.imgur.com/ezEL6uO.jpg Depth of K601 sans driver compared to Baby Bellehttps://i.imgur.com/XFVF876.jpg K701 on tophttps://i.imgur.com/ot50uoT.jpg K701 Depth Access panelhttps://i.imgur.com/UE4k4eh.jpg
