Help with Stylus Choice

Recommended Posts

A friend just asked me to 'buy a needle for my record player'. She has a JVC L-F66.

I'm out of my knowledge base for sure. Is it possible to get a stylus independent of a cartridge?

She's not looking to pay a lot. I've found what seems to be a match, scroll down the page some:

Any opinions or suggestions?

l.p. gear....here's the page for that table...

https://www.lpgear.com/product/JVCSLF066.html

STYLUS FOR JVC L-F66 L F66 LF66 TURNTABLE

The JVC L-F66 L F66 LF66 turntable was not fitted with a phono cartridge. For us to assist you further, we need the cartridge brand and model number. This info is usually inscribed on the cartridge and stylus. If you cannot identify, please contact us for a replacement phono cartridge suitable for the JVC L-F66 L F66 LF66 turntable.

Please note: For units sold outside the USA, Canada and UK, the JVC L-F66 L F66 LF66 turntable was often fitted with a JVC MD-1025 MD1025 phono cartridge and a JVC DT-Z1S DTZ1S needle stylus.

the needle doctor and l.p. gear..

are good reference for cartridges..

l.p. gear goes a little further in

known factory installed cartridges..

on turntable makes and models...

so it looks like check the cartridge

for brand and model....and take from there...

I hope this helps you and anyone else.....

It seems to me like a pretty standard budget drect drive turntable from 1980s.

If it is fitted with standard arm and shell you can put any decent moving magnet cart on it, even a moving coil cart should be ok but I doubt that you will go for such cost from what you mentioned in your firs post.

What I am getting here is that finding only the original stylus could end up being more costly and more difficult than getting the whole new cart.

Of course, the new cart will have to be fitted on the tonearm but you already know that. :)
