longdrive03
I bought some 3/4" 4 x 8' sheets that have three layers of what appears to be pine and some other wood sandwiched in between two outer plies of mdf. See pic. Anyone ever use this? Ideas about damping characteristics compared to 3/4" baltic birch or 3/4" mdf??
pzannucci
I have not used that type but where did you purchase it? Also is it void free? What is the finish side(s), birch, ash, oak?
longdrive03
I got it from a local guy that used to work for EV. It appears void free on the edges. Both sides are mdf with the three wood ply interior plies. 5 plies in all

avguytx
That Baltic Birch is 11/16" thick so I had to alter some of the dimensions on my cutouts to reflect the 1/8" difference. Wasn't many but some had to be recalculated.
BEC
I think that stuff is usually called MDO. Medium Density Overlay. It is plywood with a resin overlay on both sides. I was told a main use for it was for highway signs.

Don Richard
The picture does not look like the MDO I have. The stuff I have appears to be 7 layer void free birch with ~ 1/16 inch fiberglass overlay on each side, and is commonly used for signboard or for cabinet making. MDO seems to be very stiff and straight with no warping. Have no clue what's in the picture though.
