JohnJ
Just got a new turntable and dislike the sound of the elliptical cartridge on it. It has one side of one album played on it and I'm going to take it off and wrap it after I post this. Paypal me a reasonable price like say $100.00 and I'll ship it out to you. It came installed on the 9" medium weight tonearm of a Pro-Ject Classic tt. It does have the plastic shield to protect the stylus, but I am capable of using that tissue wrapping paper and maybe bubble wrap to protect it well enough to ship. First link is the details of this stylus at Ortofon. Second is the cart at pro-ject's site.Third is Ortofon 2M search at amazon for comparable pricing info. https://www.ortofon.com/stylus-2m-silver-p-396 http://www.project-audio.com/main.php?prod=2msilver https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2/131-9656062-8710913?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=ortofon+2M Technical specifications MM-Cartridge Ortofon 2M Silver Frequency range 20-22.000Hz Channel separation 23dB/1kHz Output voltage 4mV Recommended load impedance 47kohms/amplifier connection – MM-input Compliance/stylus type 20μm/mN – elliptical Recommended tracking force 18mN Weight 7,2g Edited April 11, 2018 by JohnJ

JohnJ
Thanks Mike, my space shuttle engineer roommate and I threw it together... 150 lbs solid red oak in the garage in Rockledge, FL in 2001. Daylight at midnight with a Saturn IV or especially a V going up!
teknoid
That cartridge can be upgraded with either a 2M Red stylus (~$90) or a 2M Blue (~200). I've listened to both and I can tell you that the Blue is a significant upgrade in overall detail. Good luck with your sale.
JohnJ
Thanks @teknoid that could help! The Silver is stated to BE an upgrade over the red, because of the magnets windings. Heck it was played for less than 15 minutes... it's a long way from broken in. Maybe the blue stylus would benefit the guts of this since silver is supposed to be an improvement over copper for transmitting sound.
JohnJ
It's got detail and the frequency response. Just didn't impress, the stock cartridge on my last tt was the same way. This cart is not damaged in any way, shape or form folks. Think I might just be a micro-line guy, not an elliptical one!

JohnJ
It's packaged up in the box, still just side two of 461 Ocean Blvd played on it! Needs a tt to be on.

JohnJ
@jfjacques Be sure that you don't "upgrade the stylus to a 2m Red" . That would be a downgrade. I'm pretty sure that you did take the time to investigate the 2m Silver before you contacted me!
jfjacques
Thanks - yes I understand upgrade path on this would be the blue - no budget for that at the moment but it could be a future purchase for sure.
