I just took 800MG of Ibuprofren.

The spasm you are feeling is ureteral spasm.  Ibuprofen works better than anything for that.  Once under control, reduce dose of the ibuprofen next time

Alternating ibuprofen with the pain meds works way better than pain meds and the spasm medication.

Interesting, I had never heard that before.  Does that help with the pain, or the spasms?

What makes that alternating combo so effective?

Ureteral spasm is the pain with a stent or "ureteral pain".  Happens worst on post op day 2-3.  Pain meds basically dummy down any discomfort and the ibuprofen (NSAIDS) controls spasms and pain.  Same reason they hit you with Toradol and a narcotic when you hit the ER with a stone.  Ureteral pain responds well to NSAIDS.

Every two hours take the ibuprofen and then pain meds.  No better combination.  Drink a bunch of fluids, eat saltines...and suk on ice chips when nauseated.

About a month ago, I had major pain from 5am on Saturday morning until 5am on Sunday morning.  Went to ER because I knew that wasn't normal to have pain for that amount of time.  Usually it subsided within 2-3 hours at most.  They gave me Toradol and within 5 min, I had zero pain.  The ER doctor called my Urologist and he told the ER doctor to have me call him on Monday and we would schedule the procedure.  The ER Dr came back to my room and said, "You know we can do that here".  Spent the night in hospital only to find out on Monday they didn't have the doctor nor the equipment to perform the procedure.  Ended up writing a letter to the President of the Hospital and they waived the $1500 balance for the 1 night stay.  I didn't mind paying for the $250 ER visit but admitting me was an error on their part.

Shock Wave Lithotripsy is usually done only on certain days as it is big, bulky (water bath model no longer available), and requires extra trained staff.  ER Docs are clueless to those days as it doesn't involve them.

Ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy can be done at anytime with typical 24 hours ORs and an available Urologist.  ......But odds are you will have a stent.

Oh my God. The hospital actually waived the $1500.00 balance? This is incredible. This should be national NEWS. It's amazing you didn't suffer a heart attack on that news.

Stones are no fun, back when I turned 30 I was walking along at work and then saw the floor. Doubled over in pain. Went to the doc he found blood in urine, sent me to a specialist and he sent me to the hospital. They were too big to remove any other way then cut me open. In recovery the doc rattled a jar, sounded like a baby's rattle but it was my stones.  After analysis, I was told it was my diet and not enough water. As bad as that was, about 3 years ago went in with a discomfort on one side. After an x ray they said I had stones again. As soon as he put the scope in he pulled it out ......   I asked why....   You have a tumor.  They removed it and I have been going for scopes about every 4 months.  I still have the stones and they are not bothering me...   I would rather have the stones......

Wow!  I'm truly sorry to hear that.  Hoping everything goes well with the tumor now being removed.

Well, I called the Dr on Wednesday to see if they could get me in Thurs or Friday to remove the stent and she said I was scheduled to have it removed on Monday (1 week) even though the Dr originally said 2-3 days, the discharge papers said 3 days and I only had enough meds for 5 days.  I called again on Thursday to make one last plea to see if he could remove it or if it was a scheduling issue, I would gladly remove the stent myself.  She called back and said the Dr said I could remove it at 8am on Friday.

At 7:30am, I got up and drank 2 large Yeti of water, took 800MB Ibuprofren, 1 Oxycodon pill and 1 Anti-spasm pill (forget the name).  At 8:30am, my bladder was full of liquid and my plan was to get in a hot bath and remove the stent incredibly slow since 3 years ago, after removing the stent, I had the worst excruciating pain 1hr after removing the stent from kidney spasms.

The stent came out with ZERO pain and no blood.  30 min go by with no pain so I'm thinking all is good this time......NOPE.  30 min after removing the stent, my kidneys and bladder began to hurt and for the next 3 1/2 hrs, I writhed in pain.  It was every bit as painful as three years ago when removing the stent.

I'm not sure if there is a secret method of removing a stent that does not involve a ridiculous amount of pain afterwards.  All I know is this is my second rodeo and I'm ready to change some habits.

I will learn to make water a priority in my life.

The doctor is having the stones sent off for analysis and we are also going to do some followup tests to see if we can't figure out what is causing them and more importantly, how to prevent them from coming back.   I certainly do not want to go through this every three years.  If I have to change my diet, increase my water intake etc....I'm willing.  I'm just glad it's over.

Probably going to tell you it’s from red meat and dairy

I eat red meat maybe once every two weeks.  I have dairy maybe once every 2 days.

As for problems after removing the stent never had any , I just pull it out at a steady pace

Removing the stent was absolutely painless. It was 30 minutes after removal my kidneys and bladder began to spasm with excruciating pain.  Literally worse than actually passing a kidney stone.  It was solid pain for over 3 hours (even with ibruprofen, pain pill and anti-spasm medicine).
