larrylcall
Thinking on a new center, I have a 440c, and I want a 64lll. Is 100 watts enough? My other fronts are 280f's, and they sound good. Just looking for more from a center.

larrylcall
I think I want the 64lll, I like the silicone around the throat, seems to make the highs a little smoother. But, is 100 watts enough?

The RC-64 II has a sensitivity of 99db with 1 watt at 1 meter. You have to double the power to gain 3db in volume. 1 watt = 99db 2 watts = 102db 4 watts = 105db 8 watts = 108db 16 watts = 111db 32 watts = 114db 64 watts = 117db 128 watts = 120db I would say your ears will give out before you get anywhere near 100 watts. larrylcall
The new 64lll should timbre match my rf280p's, don't you think? There is nowhere near me to audition that piece.
larrylcall
One more thing guys- is the new 3 series worth $500 more than the two? I'm talking the center channel, as I want a bigger one, than my current 440c. Thanks!
oldtimer
If it is something you will use for a long time, the extra 500 averaged out over the years will not mean too much. So if it is better, then it is simply better. I haven't auditioned to compare, so I can't help you with whether it is better, but simply pointing out the financial perspective. larrylcall
It's probably a little smoother, but that's all I can see.
