Dustin
Anyone have some advice on Klipsch Chorus II for replacing the k-48-e woofer? - Eminence kappa proLFC? - Crossover mods due to lower the kappa pro lower frequency? Thank you for any advice.
jjptkd
I just brought this up not too long ago, even called Klipsch parts and they ain't got nothin'. I see the ki-396 uses a k-48-st, not sure what the differences are or if they'd work or if Klipsch would even sell them. If you find out anything let me / us know!
jason str
The Eminence Kappa 15C will work. You can look on Epay for factory drivers as they show up every so often.
jjptkd
The 15c has an 80oz mag the 48 has a 96 and the usable frequency response in the 15c specs is 63hz and up, would probably "work" but wouldn't consider it a direct replacement. Has anyone tried the 15c in a Chorus?

Has anyone tried the 15c in a Chorus? Exact replacement is just not going to happen unless you buy used or find NOS. Crites woofers would be another option, probably more similar to the K-33 than the K-48. Maybe Klipsch uses a similar driver in their pro gear, won't hurt to give a call. TomR
Welcome Dustin, What is the problem with the original woofers? They can be rebuilt.
jjptkd
I have looked at the Eminence Kappa pro lfc before, looks like the closest available driver through their website: http://www.eminence.com/pdf/Kappa_Pro_15LFC.pdf Found this on the interwebs, guy measured a k-48-E and got the numbers: https://forum.speakerplans.com/klipsch-k48-driver-specs_topic82799.html I'm not a techy by any stretch but comparing posted numbers side by side a lot of the values are very close with just a couple being a bit off. I don't know which of these numbers really matter and which ones don't? If I were to try out a new woofer these would probably be it though. From what I can tell the Chorus cabinets are 4.5 cu ft, it would be interesting to plug the Kappa pro numbers into a box building program and see what kind of frequency response comes out of it? pzannucci
If this is for home use, I would probably go with Crite's 15c. Is the woofer blown or damaged? Recone?

pzannucci
Just now, jjptkd said: Isn't that basically a k-33 replacement? Yes, to me you don't need a k-48 unless you are doing mindless things or using them in a pro atmosphere. That is why I stated Home use. Add some weight to the passive and you'd likely get a nice bump in the bass extension also. More than one way to skin a cat and with a little tweaking, likely come out with something more balanced with better extension.
jason str
The Eminence 15C has more similarity to the K-43 than the K-33 if anything and don't forget the Chorus II has 101 db/1W efficiency rating.
Grizzog
Is the K-48-ST a possibility from the KI-396?

geoff.
The K-48 is a tough act to follow. Still very curious to hear the consensus on a suitable replacement. If the Faital Pro 15PR400 is as articulate AND goes lower it’s going to get some exercise in my living room.
OO1
there is no substitute for the K48 in the CHORUS 1-2-----great woofer , and it's even used in the PRO series with a lot more power ---either you recone it or you buy a new one -

The biggest change will be sound pressure, as Faital works with double sound pressure at the same wattage
