Hi Bill,

I believe they are walnut.  Not dark enough to be cherry and certainly not black.  I'm not at home or I would submit a pic.

Can you tell if they are a lacquer or oil finish?

Look on the label in the rear and it should tell you that info.

How about some photos.

When I get home later tonight I'll post some pics.  Thanks

... I'm wondering if there is any particular care I should give to the 32 year old beauties?

Play them loud.

Play them soft.

Talk dirty to them.

Buy them flowers on Valentine's Day.

Walk them twice a day, but on a leash so they don't roam.

An occasional pat or gentle touch reassures them you still care.

Draft a pre-nup, where you keep the Heresy's. She can have everything else, because nothing else matters.

Oh so the same as I do my Parker Fly Deluxe.

That wood looks thirsty.  If mine, I would give them a treatment of gum turpentine and boiled linseed oil (50/50 mix).  Rub in on and rub it in with a soft cloth.  There are other wood restoration products of course that one could buy.

Thank you that's the info I've been looking for.

There's also a couple of other products you should consider.  Howard's Restore A Finish, which comes in a number of stain colors, or the Watco product line which also has a number of stain colors as well as a "clear" Rejuvenating oil.    Looks to me as though you might need something with a light walnut stain built in.  Both are excellent products.

The word on the forum is that people who call the factory and ask what to use are told Watco rejuvenating oil.  I'd recommend that because it is uncolored and thus is to a great extent not permanent.  Other Watco products are colored or tinted and might be impossible to reverse.

Make note of safety precautions for disposal of cloth or what ever you use to apply Watco.  I just put them on an improvised clothes line.

I'll suggest you get a buff puff from Walgreens.  Use that to apply the first coat and then wipe off with a paper towel.  This will loosen up and dust, grime, tobacco tar, etc.  It can't hurt the wood.
