Recommended Posts

Been  looking at receivers from Onkyo Rz , Anthem , Marantz,

and I came back to  pioneer SC LX 801 .

the price is ok  considering the price for anthem or Marantz.

anyone out there still believe in Pioneer?

went to a sound room and it sound great but the

speakers they used where worth about $18.000.00

but I do believe it would sound great on my

klipsch’s. So does anyone have some info ?

Are you saying the  Yamaha is not even close to

a 140 Watts , I believe the  pioneer elite 801 is !

Again, not in "all channels driven" or even 7 channels.  Maybe 5 channels but can't say that is full bandwidth.

Here is the deal.  Even though the major players in the AVR game do tend to "manipulate" the power specs, all is not lost.  The "all channels driven" test is an exact test signal sent to all channels simultaneously which in a real world HT scenario, you will not have every speaker receiving the exact signal all the time and most likely very little of the time.  You may have at any given time 60% going to center channel while the left rear channel receives 5% and the right front speaker only 15% and the left front 20%.  Then 10 seconds later the power demands may be the exact opposite.

Ok I understand that , but there is 9  channels

and the it says 140 Watts  per clannel I can see it would drop that low ?

What that means is that all channels are capable of 140w/channel when any two are in stereo mode.

Class D3 is raw power isn’t it ?

The SC-LX801 is the only amplifier in this test in which pulse amplifiers were used. That's why the power does not regret and can deal with 4-ohm impedance in 5-channel mode without any problems - because it is not exposed to too high temperature, which triggered the protection (which happens with competitors).

At 8 Ω we have 2 x 153 W and almost twice as much, 2 x 280 W, at 4 Ω. In 5-channel mode, at 8 Ω, melts slightly (compared to dual-channel power) - up to 5 × 140 W; at 4 ohms more clearly - up to 5 x 179 W, but it is still a record result in this test.

Actually not bad numbers at all but again can't say all these tests are full bandwidth(20Hz to 20kHz).
