Kain
I have a small room and I am planning a 7.1.4 setup. Since the side surround speakers will be pretty close to the seating while the back surrounds will be roughly 3-4 ft behind the seating, will it be okay if I get the RP-250S for both the side surrounds and the back surrounds? I thought about the RP-160M for both the sides and backs but read that the sound may be too directional at close distances. The RP-250S will help diffuse the sound which will be a plus when you are close to the speakers. Any thoughts?
wuzzzer
That'll give you seamless sound beside and behind you. I'd do it.

But doesn't Dolby recommend monopoles for the surround speakers with Atmos?
wuzzzer
Technically for the rear surrounds, yes.

If your side wall is 15ft or closer these are best. if a huge room go bookshelves all around i dont like WDST speakers as back surrounds the channel mixes perfectly as monos if u can fit the rp160m u r in for a treat

They backed off of this. When it first came out a few years ago they were saying monopole at the same height as your mains, period. It's just not an issue in my opinion and they aren't dictating it either. Having a horn firing in your ear directly from the side just isn't pleasant.
