wvu80
Wow, even bible belt state West Virginia got rid of blue laws in the 70's. Now if Indiana will just get rid of those biblical laws which punish people working on the sabbath by stoning them to death...
CECAA850
We can buy beer and wine at the grocery stores on Sunday but it has to be after noon. Liquor stores are closed all day Sunday.
WillyBob
did the sun come up? No more runs to Michigan [for package liquor]. Unless they tightened up since I was there, you could get a drink at a restaurant with a meal... Or am I remembering wrong?
jimjimbo
You could always get a drink at a restaurant or a bar, but just no carryout alcohol of any kind. The sun? What's that?
Moderators dtel Posted March 5, 2018 Moderators Share Posted March 5, 2018 Until about 2 years ago restaurants here could not sell any alcohol, some chains fought it and finally won. Then a couple places opened since they could sell drinks which is about the highest profit margin except for soft drinks. You can buy beer here in the grocery, not hard liquor, because everyone knows you can't get drunk on beer so it's ok. But go across the state line, 20 minutes in either direction, the first thing you see is a liquor store, and they do very well. Now go 30 minutes south to Louisiana and they have drive through daiquiri store's, no open container law and bars can stay open 24 hours if they want. Once in North Louisiana we went out with some friends, that parish had a law that any business could not sell any kind of alcohol to be consumed on the property. What they did was the bars would charge $10 a person to get in and they had live music, the cool part was you could bring in your icechest with whatever you wanted in it. This turned out to be way cheaper, the next building over was also owned by them, it was a liquor store, they just went around the law. ,,

dmb12679
Minnesota was like this until a couple 2-3 years ago. Luckily I grew up on the Mississippi side of MN so it was a 3 minute drive to Wisconsin. It used to suck when a friend would show up at your house Saturday night and drink your beers, leaving you none for Sunday Football.

July of last year MN changed to allow liquor stores to open on Sundays. They can choose to be open or not. One guy opened his store the Sunday before the law went in effect and was fined for it. I think the longest they can be open is something like 11am to 6pm.

DizRotus
If it’s against the law in a given state to buy, or consume, alcohol on Sunday, can we infer it’s also against the law to pray on Monday?

You'd be praying for alcohol by then anyway.
