Cheap Component for Travel Detection?

There's any number of IMUs (Intertial Measurement Units) available that can do this. They have gotten very inexpensive for the cell phone market. They're not extremely accurate, but depending upon the model they will give you acceleration, velocity, and/or position, and angle or angular velocity in rotation matrix, Euler, or quaternion.

yes... there are devices to detect movement.

Having a senior moment... trying to remember the term for them.

not what I was thinking/groping for...

but these drones have 3 gyroscopes, for stabilization,on a board the size of a matchbook. And room for 4 speed controllers, and a receiver... can't see where a transmitter would be that tough.

I'll remember the term. Might take a couple days, tho

thnx @Edgar

accelerometers[sp?] is the term..

A 6DOF (degree of freedom) IMU contains accelerometers in 3 axes and gyros in 3 axes. A 9DOF IMU adds 3 axes of magnetometer. Many of the off-the-shelf IMUs also perform the arithmetic to turn accelerations into velocities and positions, and to turn angular velocities into angles.
