My Mother always told me the truth. Especially when I didn’t want to hear it.

She tried her best to make sure I did the right thing. Unfortunately, she taught me to question things and I applied that by questioning if the right things were truly right. She didn’t always appreciate my application of her teachings.

Anyway, I think, part of the demise of intellectualism is the lack of questioning the information we are presented. And the respect we gave those brave enough to appreciate both sides of an argument.

is this all caused by the loss..

of the moral fabric....that was instilled...in all of us....several +

generations ago...the break down

of the family unit...?

Possibly. There does seem to be a real lack of appreciation of each other.

This forum excluded. Nice people here.

You can't say "all of us" or someone will get all demographic on your hiney.  But I would say no.  One may be a symptom of the other, but not a cause.  Causation and correlaton are not equivalent.

I can care less....what others think..

it's the cause of not thinking....

should of learned don't touch the stove....it hot....if you did not learn

that early on....you still get burned..

is this the same as me telling a friend I didn't drink any more.

his reply "You don't drink any less, do you?"

we don't seem to live in a hands on world. we read about it

  and over intellectualize a lot.

from a self proclaimed simpleton

If you can care less, then you care somewhat.  If you can't care less, then you don't care.

No it's not the same as I don't drink anymore.  It's not intellectualizing, it's the language we supposedly speak.

Gilbert's responses in this thread are an example.  He called me out on saying the entire USA , instead of properly qualifying a generalization.

I will try my third language
