Ceptorman
You might experiment with toe in also.
Schu
What do you mean by "best" bass response? Do you the most bass?

Every room environment is DIFFERENT...due to THAT, you just need to EXPERIMENT with your speakers in the room you will use them. Start out with both speakers in a corner if at all possible, then slowly move them out of the corner (or if no corner being used for them, then move them out from the wall) and test them. Be sure to "toe them inwards" towards your listening position at EACH step of moving them away from the wall/corner so that you hear them best at each stage of the experiment. Once they sound best to YOUR EARS, then leave them there. You may want to just take a tape measure and see how far out they are from walls/corners so that when you have to move them for vacuuming, or whatever, you can easily get them right back to where they were sounding best for you. NOTE; each time you add more stuff to the room, or remove stuff from the room, or even RE-POSITION stuff in that room, you need need to go thru this process again. STUFF in the room affects what your ears hear coming from those speakers. If you change upstream components, especially AMPLIFIERS, you will also very likely need to do it again.....even if the amp section is made by the same company the previous amp was made by. A common manufacturer label does not tell the entire story about HOW that amp is affecting the signal that comes out of it...never does and never will.

Is it true that if you have carpeted floor, large towers sound better when placed on ceramic or stone tiles? Not sure if that's true, but I got mine on tiles, just in case

dubs
I placed them close to the walls. 3-5 inched off. Sounds best to my ears. Great bass response. Gives those towers a real depth. Love the RF-7ii’s!!

Depends on the room and how much freedom you have to move around to incorporate them with the room acousticaly (in other words, sometimes you can't have what's "best" due to the constraints the room and it's contents put on you) Shape, dimensions and what you have in it An SPL level meter and experimentation (as has already been suggested) are the way to go
derrickdj1
Distance from the wall also depends on if you are using a sub and run the speakers as SMALL VS LARGE. Set to LARGE, you need more distance from the wall.
