An unlikely suggestion -- call Jolanta Conti at Basis Audio.com to see if she knows of any used Basis 'tables for sale around the country. They do show up, infrequently, and thats how Garymd got his very nice 2001for a very good price at least a decade ago. AJ Conti stepped in with a nearly new table, somehow correctly cut for his tonearm. That could save you a lot of trouble if successful if you're interested. LarryC
I finally looked at a Redpoint pic, and that's a turntable! Hope you didn't mind suggestions of a more pedestrian-looking Basis.

It's all good brother besides the problem is not with the TT it is just the residue from the new pulley. I can always go back to the old motor or have a new pulley made. jorjen
Delrin works well for stuff like this also. Strong, machines well, reasonably priced, clean, light, white or black, etc., etc..

richieb
Yeah, I was curious and looked it up too. A $25K turntable? Obviously a thread I have Zero business reading ---

BTW the original pulley was also brass with a mylar belt....

jcmusic
Update: So I had the machine shop make another pulley from SS and wouldn't ya know it , it is also leaving a residue. So now it is either the belt itself or something the shop used on the material I guess???
Schu
Ask them for the Rockwell hardness number on the brass they used.
Skelt
Ask them for the Rockwell hardness number on the brass they used.Brass is too soft for the Rockwell chart. We use the Brinell hardness chart at work for brass and bronze.Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Schu
its listed in the b70 range... which is not very hard
jcmusic
As I said in the update, I am now using a SS pulley and I am still getting this residue. Which seems to indicate it's the belt but, with my old SS pulley there was never any residue. Which makes me think maybe it was something the shop used in the process? LarryC
I'd sure be interested in what Basis, VPI or SME would say about all this and what recomendations they would make. Like you, I don't understand the residue problem at all.
