khorn51
Are they factory custom order? Never seen another pair like them looks like the photo type with biger bass cab.
JRH
They are indeed rare. At least several left-right pairs were made as special orders. This pair shipped to the Music Box in Wellesley Mass.
khorn51
Cool they were sent to the music box , listend to my first khorn there as a kid. They had a real real nice display listing room. Any more history on why the vertical Lascal's were offered as a custom order?

dtr20
The H in the serial number means 1969.
khorn51
I ended up buying the la Scala's today. The sound very much like the first year La Scala's I have with the sideways bass cab. Going to use the two rare pairs as a vintage theater/pa set up with scott 220-a mono amps. Love the look of black fir cabinets. Its cool that they are 69 vintage. Thanks for all the info.

Bill W.
Jim, I have a follow up question on the base horn construction. It looks as if the parallel walls of the dog house are constructed of 1/2” stock rather than 3/4” I have an early pair that are constructed like these. Do you have any information on this? khorn51
Bill, Just measured the bass horn side walls and top and bottom they are 3/4 ply. Spent a few hours looking and can't not find any pics of another La Scala like these.
Bill W.
Sorry if I wasn’t clear. I was referring to the parallel inner side walls of the bass horn that make up then sides of the back air chamber. These appear to be made of thinner material.
khorn51
Bill, Dog house side walls seem to be 5/8th
Bill W.
Thanks for checking, that seems to be consistent with the cabinets that I have.
moray james
The vertical orientation is in fact the correct orientation for this diffraction tweeter though they measure close enough when rotated 90 degrees and that saved space in a vertical stack. I much prefer the look of the ones you found to a standard vertical stack. You have a piece of history to love and enjoy. Congratulations on your very special find.
