Fido
Thanks for all the great input. I am now leaning to picking up a Mcintosh MA252 Hybrid Integrated Amp. Amp section is all SS and Preamp is good old Mcintosh Tube technology. Reviews are quite high on this amp and I think it would play well with my Fortes - Then I can just use one of the switches recommended in this thread when I want to use the Yamaha for HT. Fido
I wonder if there is a switch that also has a Subwoofer output?
Fido
I couldn't find a switch that would be a clean solution for switching between the current AVR and a new Integrated amp that included the subwoofer, too. Im thinking that getting a higher end AVR with preamp outs would allow me to use an external integrated amp for the stereo only channels and the AVR would just be a pass thru. Does it work like that? Im getting a tad confused. If I spend all the $$$ on the Mcintosh i want to use the the preamp in the Integrated instead of the preamp in the AVR. Fido
Like going onto the Corvette Forum this Klpsch Forum can really help someone part with their $$$$$. Listening to peoples informed advice I went and auditioned a Mcintosh Integrated amp at a Magnolia store and it sounded amazing. No idea how it will sound with my Fortes but decided WTH. So thanks all - I now have a new AVR with Pre Outs ordered for my HT listening and a MA252 for my 2 channel experiences. Light in the wallet now but excited to hear my system perform to its full potential. Again, thanks for all the feedback.

I just don't think I would have been satisfied if I didn't go all the way with the higher end integrated. I made a mistake when I bought my 675 four years ago because I didn't want to spend the extra couple of hundred $$$ on a higher end AVR that had Pre Outs. Getting a new AVR that has them is now a $900 expense. Too many times I have tried saving $ and it usually costs me more in the long run. Fido
Wanted to update what I did to solve my desires to use my AVR and get my Fortes to sound better. With the help of an audiophile expert, Ron Atherton, at Magnolia in Mission Viejo, Ca. I bought a new higher end Yamaha AVR A 880 with pre outs and a new Mcintosh MA252 Integrated Amp with a SS amp section with a tube preamp section. Hooked it up tonight and just had to share that this was the best $$$ I have ever spent on upgrading a stereo system. My dad had these speakers since 1986 - I bought Crites crossovers and updated the midrange drivers and tweeters with the Crites Titanium ones. That helped a lot but this new amp made my system sound better than any home system I have ever heard - Its mind blowing. So yes - Klipsche Fortes and tube pre amp and high end amp -- WOW -- I'm so stoked right now! So bad ***. It sounds AMAZING - Thanks for all the advice to not just get a higher end AVR. I think this MA252 would rock almost any of the Heritage line speakers! It really helps having a system specialist put it all together knowing how all the pieces will work together because I'm a very happy camper now.
