Panelhead
I have a pair of Heresey III. Love the sound. Now I want to get an old pair and rebuild. Not necessary to be Heresey’s. Want a pair with real wood cabinets and alnico magnets. I used Lowther’s for a long time and know how the BL drops over time. Plus expect veneer issues after 40 years. I think the cabinets changed in early 80’s. Other manufacturers swapped to ceramic magnets much earlier due to cost. What was the time frame of when Klipsch switched from alnico magnet drivers? Were all first series plywood and alnico?
JohnA
AlNiCo woofers stopped around 1969-70, maybe sooner for the big 4 Heritage. The AlNiCo tweeters stopped in 1980 (the K-77-M responds higher). The AlNiCo squawker stopped in 1982 and returned in the early 2000s to the big Heritage. In every case I know, the ceramic magnet replacements had superior performance.
