uicjeff Posted June 20, 2018 Share Posted June 20, 2018 (edited) Hi I upgrading my 5.2.4 system to 7.2.4, adding Surround back speakers. Trying to choose between the Klipsch R-14s, or the RP-240s. The RP-240s look better and I assume would sound better on their own. But the horn material (Cerametallic Woofers and Titanium tweeter) will not match the rest of my speaker while the 14s would. Thoughts? Suggestions? The area is ~14' x 20'+. Its an area at the end of an open finished basement so I only have three walls with 9' drywall ceilings and Porcelain wood look tile (No rugs or carpet) Floor plan I'm planning on hanging the R14s or RP-240s from the ceiling, behind the seating area and tilt them down about 45 degrees. (Stands are not an option due to not wanting to run wiring on the floor and no back wall near. My current setup is: Klipsch VF-36 FLOORSTANDING SPEAKERS (FL/FR) [From my original 3.1 system] Klipsch R-10SW SUBWOOFERS (L/R) Klipsch R-25C CENTER SPEAKER Klipsch R-15M Monitor Speakers - Black (SL/SR) Klipsch R-14SA ATMOS Speakers (FDL/FDR) added to top of Front floorstanding speakers Klipsch R-14SA ATMOS Speakers (SDL/SDR) added to top surround speakers Denon AVR-X4400H Receiver - Will be adding a second amp to get all 11 channels (Russound P75) + Soundshakers under the Seatcrafter Vienna sofa & loveseat Edited June 20, 2018 by uicjeff Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
The History Kid Posted June 20, 2018 Share Posted June 20, 2018 For surround duties, I don't think timbre matching is quite as important. Don't get me wrong, you'd be better off matching when possible, but surrounds generally handle effects. That being said, hanging floorstanding speakers sounds like a pain, and you may honestly be better off going with the R-14S, since they're designed to be surrounds. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If the timbre doesn't matter as much I think i'll go with the Klipsch RP-240s. they are bookshelf size and should sound good.
