Stefano_2018
Hi guy I'm looking for a couple of "La SCALA" full ALNICO. I had found these, but the type of filter is deleted. Anyway do you seem originals? BR Stefano
JohnA
That looks like an early Type AA. Correct for pre-1982 La Scalas. Those are unlikely to have AlNiCo woofers. The ceramic magnet tweeters respond higher and tolerate more power than the AlNiCo K-77s. For home use that means you can safely remove the zener diode tweeter protection and get cleaner sound from the tweeter.
Stefano_2018
Hi Jahn, it means that this model hasn't alnico tweeters? sorry for my disinformation. BR Stefano Barucchi
Deang
That network has been modified. I see a Jantzen Superior on the right, and a Dayton/Bennic with a zip tie on the left. This might be why the end of the label has been removed. The picture you you provided is of the midrange driver. The driver is made by Atlas Sound, and has an AlNiCo magnet. JohnA
Stephano, That Type AA network could have been paired with AlNiCo tweeters. You'll have to look at the tweeter to be sure. My point was the later ceramic tweeter is a better tweeter. I did not recognize the labels on the caps. I was looking on my phone and that didn't help much, either. I believe Klipsch used those sorts of hold down clamps in the distant past. The black connecting wire is not at all like my 70s and 80s Klipsch. Frzninvt
Tweeter with round magnet = Alnico
Stefano_2018
ok, now everything is clear. I asked to the seller to send me the photo of the tweeter. When I'll receive them, I'll show you. sorry for my bad english BR Stefano
pzannucci
Looks like an old AA network with redone caps. Not the large oil can caps used on the early crossovers. So, no, not original but likely parts were to original specs. Judging by the rust, likely the autoformers were original.
Stefano_2018
Hi, attached the tweeter's photo. Is this original? Is this in alnico ? Thanks. Br Stefano
codewritinfool
Tweeter could be original. Wires to it are funky, though.
Stefano_2018
Ok thank you, I'll buy them. I will consult the forum to fix the cables and the crossover BR Stefano
Deang
Yes, AlNiCo K-77s. I also agree that that is not the original wiring.
pzannucci
Noticed that on the crossover. When they changed the crossover, they must have changed the wiring. Very thin. Perhaps they bought some of the thin stuff from Mapleshade.
