Vintage Telefunken Stereo Console

Recommended Posts

Toying with the idea of retrofitting a vintage stereo console.  Gut it ... put some Heresy's in it with a Marantz amp and TT/CD player.  Anyone done this? (Or am I crazier than most of us here?) :D

Found this console ... going to take a look at it in the next couple of days :D

Cork the wine Emile!

Already done ... I start at 5pm :D  No need for a TV screen ... this will go in my patio room ... 2 sides have 10 French doors (OK; 5 doubles) ... should make for some interesting acoustics :)

What is the brand name on the radio/receiver?

Sorry; no clue ... from a listing on CraigsList ... of course "incomplete." :(

If it is Grundig, you may just want to keep it, especially if you are planning to use highly efficient speakers...the same can be said for Blaupunkt.  Both of these brands were VERY highly-regarded, and still are.  My older brother bought a Grundig console system on his last duty tour in Germany in the early 1970's....it still sounds great!  Grundig was using Thorens turntables in their consoles when he bought his.

I thought about this for the deck at the lake.  But something not worth anything as it will be left out side.  It will be covered and out of the elements for the most part, I will mainly have worry about moisture in the air and rodents.  Mine will be primarily Bluetooth.  Haven't quit decided how I want to handle it yet.

Outside?  Out of the elements for the most part?  Worried about humidity and rodents?  I wouldn't put a whole lot of thought into whether to do it or not.....

One more pic from CL ... Telefunken 504 TT :)

and "think" it is a Korting (?) receiver ... similar to this ...

Korting-Telefunken-Shortwave-Tube-Radio-Phonograph-Mid-Cent-Mod-Dry-Bar-Cabinet

Telefunken were very highly regarded, especially for their tubes...the German-made Telefunken-branded tubes have been pretty hard to come by for a number of years since the labor-cost of producing them pretty much gave that market over to former USSR and Warsaw Pact nations, and of course, China. NOS Telefunken tubes pop up here and there.

Thanks for finding this "locally" for me.  Haha ... little bit "too much" with the fireplace ... wife prefers mid-century Danish teak :D

Ha,  a little teak stain,  replace the fireplace with a sub,  problems solved.  😁

OK; found a "cool" console (posted before, repeated see pics ... 55x16x31 inches), and have a stupid question :D

Haha ... was going to put the speakers from my KP-3002 in it ... 15" woofers and 7x11" horns. Think I can fit the horns in the front ... but obviously NO space fro the woofers.  How about putting the woofers on the bottom?  Or will the sound just be terrible? (Think I can match the cuft volume of the original enclosure somehow :) )

Cheers, Emile

Are you thinking a downfiring woofer like the old EV Interface Ds?

YK, thanks!  Wasn't familiar with those :)  ... but it seems the concept is "do-able."  Guess there is hope after all and maybe the sound might be OK :D

Have also thought of a folded design, but there just isn't enough room. Can't put it in "slated" because I would loose too much "volume."

For those unfamiliar with the EV interface D's, here is a link ... http://techtalk.parts-express.com/forum/tech-talk-forum/59605-let-s-talk-about-the-design-of-the-electrovoice-interface-d-speakers
