Khornukopia
@Shiva has sent me a link to some info about handheld audio recorders with built in microphones. Very compact and convenient. Now I need to study about those devices.
Khornukopia
The wood grain on the garage speakers have a 3-D illusion when the viewing position changes, or in the case of these pictures, when the position of the light source moves.
Marvel
My original room was 13 x 21, with the LS on the narrow end wall, I placed mics about 12 feet back. That was my regular listening location.

Khornukopia
I have an old dining table that was taking up space in storage, so I might as well use it as a woodworking table in the garage. My metal workbench is for mechanical projects.

One of my concerns with ultra-flat is if household dust will be a nuisance in the long run.

Playing CD tracks that I've been listening to for years and am familiar with them. I was going to say, certain models of the Zoom recorders would work quite well. I'll see if I can find one of the tracks I re-recorded and maybe put it a Dropbox so you can have a listen.
Khornukopia
Removed some drivers to take a picture of the foam inserts because of a forum member's question last week, and now have decided to re-cap the crossovers and re-finish the scratched walnut Heresy IIs.
Khornukopia
Made some small panels to study the different patterns possible with the veneer for my next project. Pardon the flaws and rough clear coat, these boards are just test samples. The one board common to both pictures is the same piece viewed from different angles.
Khornukopia
Sanding the oiled walnut surface has removed the scratches and the black circle from a potted plant. I could just apply some boiled linseed oil and be done, but I have already cut the new veneer sheets, and want to continue learning how to work with veneer. Khornukopia
Would have been so much easier to just re-oil the Heresy IIs and then go climb a tall mountain, but I needed to get some experience with this unbacked, raw veneer on a moderate size box before applying it to my big Klipsch speakers.
Khornukopia
The wood sealer needs to dry for a day before I can add the clear coat, so I will re-cap the crossover networks.

Khornukopia
Ideally, a matched pair of speakers should be mirror images to each other, but I intentionally went random with these cabinets to examine the different grain pattern options for my bigger project.
Khornukopia
The larger size of the replacement 68 uF capacitor for the Heresy II made it necessary to move the crossover PCB from the terminal cup to a separate board.
Khornukopia
The Heresy IIs are part of an independent stereo system, for those moments when the main stereo is unplugged for upgrades or maintenance.
Marvel
Beautiful veneer.

So the way the foam is placed would also benefit the Heresy 1 ---------all Heresy 1 speakrs never had any foam inserted in the cabs
Khornukopia
Have been listening to the garage speakers more often during the past few months, and I really like the sound. The K-402 mid-horn is a good upgrade for the Klipschorns.
