Moderators dtel Posted October 10, 2018 Moderators Share Posted October 10, 2018 Thought I would start this since it is now a cat 4 with sustained winds of 130 mph. This will affect alot of people and head up the east coast, it's looking pretty bad for the Panama City Beach area and Eastward.
CECAA850
It got real bad real fast. Time to leave if you're in the panhandle.
willland
Really ugly. Very low lying area in Big Bend could surge a mile or more inland. Oyster beds will be wrecked and will take a long time to recover. Please leave if you are able. Bill
wvu80
PSA, Attention @Youthman: There's a hurricane coming! In case the rest of you didn't know, Michael brags he is the LAST to know if there's a hurricane. He's not directly in the way but he's near Tampa Bay, pretty close. Stay dry, Michael. JohnJ
Eye Ya Yaaay, did y'all see the satellite pics of this eyewall? Saw it on the boob-tube, it's not at ramdis or noaa. Very circular, straight with the depth in view, pressure 5mb lower than Hazel right now. bad storm
Shiva
An image of a skull appeared in the storm. Thats a tad ominous. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6259957/Hurricane-Michaels-140mph-winds-unleash-13ft-waves-Florida.html 1
Moderators dtel Posted October 10, 2018 Author Moderators Share Posted October 10, 2018 NNE at 14 mph, winds at 145 mph sustained. That little point sticking out of the Florida coast is Panama City Beach. 1

Moderators dtel Posted October 10, 2018 Author Moderators Share Posted October 10, 2018 Looks like it's moving pretty good, but sustained winds at 155mph, not good, there will be alot of damage.

mangofirst
What's the difference between the red of a hurricane Doppler and the red of a thunderstorm Doppler? Or...what does Doppler radar actually gauge? Because apparently it has naught to do with windspeed.
mangofirst
P.S. I was looking at a video of landfall earlier and thought there must be something pushing that sucker away. Had to re-download wunderground earlier to look at fronts. 🤷 Why no, no I haven't watched any weather news lately.
JohnJ
@mangofirst believe the dopplers measure the water content in the clouds and believe me when hugo dumped 20 + inches on us in less than ten hours it was unreal and unforgettable! They change the colors on all those things too much for me always have to find the legend. Wrong, measures the velocity of water maybe, still reading. I looked it up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doppler_radar
