oliverlarking
Hi there! Me and a friend recently bought a pair of La Scalas to use in our bar/club. It's a smaller place with a small dance floor and we would need some recommendations on amps that are cheap and will make the system sound great. The setup so far is a pair of Technics 1210s, a Rane MP2015 mixer and two 1990s La Scalas. Amps we're currently looking at are Marantz 2230 and Nad 3020 but we need some expertise. Thanks for all recommendations!
JohnA
You need to look.at pro amps. Something like a Crown XLS. Check to see which woofer they have. If K-33, get an amp 200 wpc and under. If K-43, get one with about 300 wpc. DO NOT boost the bass to La Scalas and watch the volume, too, to avoid any audible distortion. Then, get one or 2 pro subwoofers, another amp and a crossover to run the subs. Done well, you'll have a *killer* dance system!
Marvel
I agree with John on this one... a Crown or similar QSC will sound great and will coast along with more reliability. How big is your bar/club? Bruce

oliverlarking
Thanks guys! It's a very small space but don't know the exact dimensions. Will look into Crown amps. Found a pair of really cheap Crown CDi 1000 on a swedish auction site, will those do? Will also check the woofers when I return to the club this friday. You're all invited if you ever come visit Gothenburg in Sweden! Regards / Oliver
JohnA
CDi1000s look fine. They are built for permanent installation, so the connections will be awkward. La Scalas are not designed to produce low bass. Boosting the bass to try to get it is sure to blow up woofers. .
oliverlarking
Great John thanks! We will get a pair of subs asap. We mostly play jazz, disco and soul so we're not gonna go too deep on the bass end to begin with. Do you have any recommendations on a good sub pairing with the La Scalas as well? JohnA
If you can find them, Klipsch KP-480s were designed (or appear to be) to work with La Scalas. The footprint is the same, sensitivity is very close. Soul and Disco can have some pretty strong lower bass. With jazz, you'll want to be solid down to 41 Hz, open E on an acoustic bass. Since you are in Sweden, look at 18" Berringer subs. There are many other brands, JBL, EAW, Cerwin Vega, EV, .... Try to get as close to 40 Hz at -3 dB as you can and as close to 104 dB/w/m as you can for an unpowered sub and 125 dB max from a powered sub. Should you end up with a sub that is -10 at 35 to 40 Hz, you can place it on the floor, against a wall and get +3 dB (compared to normal on the floor, middle of the room rating) from that placement. You might even get +6 db on the floor, in a corner at the lowest notes.
