celestial_sound
Hi, What is the main difference between newer RP-600M versus older RP-160M bookshelf speakers. I've read many good reviews about 160s but can't find any for 600s. What model should i go for? Thansk
dtr20
I believe the difference is the outside finish and maybe the tweeter design. @MetropolisLakeOutfitters should know
Hasty
The RP-160M has an angled base. There's some differences in the tweeters as was mentioned. I haven't heard the new version in person.
pzannucci
I have the RP-160Ms, very nice little speaker though have not heard the RP-600m. In theory the new vented tweeter in the 600 should be a little better. How much better, I don't know though considering they both are capable of a 1500hz crossover. Each speaker is going to be the sum of it's parts and if the crossover also changed, you probably should listen to both if possible because there is likely an effect on the voicing. Paducah Home Theater
Matte black baffle vs. brushed veneer better higher definition sides vs. not so good with purple streaks vented tweeter vs. non-vented which had some issues with being smooth around the crossover frequency the new one is almost the same but a little better
celestial_sound
How does the speaker behaves in terms of neutrality? I've not heard previous or this model, but many reviews point that in general Klipsch speakers struggle when it comes to neutrality. Is this case with 600s as well? YK Thom
Quite neutral actually. A good buy that punches well above its price point.
2Bad
FWIW... CNet's Steve Guttenberg just the other day picked the 600M as "The Audiophiliac Speaker of the Year". Here's the link if you are interested in his thoughts - LINK.
pzannucci
Both are great or an older set of RB5s if you don't mind used. Punches a bit harder.
