Mems70
Hi bros, i am using a Rotel RSP 1098 and two Rotel amplifiers, I have connect my Rotel cd, an Apple TV, and my Mac computer by 3.5 mm conector to RCA input, a good friend of mine insists that I need a Dac, I have read that Dac converts digital to analog signals but is it necessary when you have this kind of Preamp where you can have all kind of digitals inputs? I mean coaxial and optical, for me sounds great but what’s your opinion about it? Enviado desde mi iPhone utilizando Tapatalk
willland
Try connecting your Apple TV and Mac to your Rotel 1098 via digital connections bypassing their internal DACs and using the 1098's DACs. If no discernible sound improvement, then switch back. You could then maybe buy a new but inexpensive DAC which most likely will provide "better" sound quality than the 1098's 15 year old technology DAC. Maybe something like these. https://hifiheaven.net/shop/Products/DACs-iPod-Docks-Digital-Audio-Players-USB-Converters/Music-Hall-DAC-15.2-USB-DAC?sort=p.price&order=ASC&limit=100 https://hifiheaven.net/shop/Products/DACs-iPod-Docks-Digital-Audio-Players-USB-Converters/Audioengine-D1-Premium-24-bit-DAC-Display-Model?sort=p.price&order=ASC&limit=100 https://hifiheaven.net/shop/Products/DACs-iPod-Docks-Digital-Audio-Players-USB-Converters/Musical-Fidelity-V90-DAC-24-192-Upsampling-Digital-to-Analog-Converter-Black-Refurb?sort=p.price&order=ASC&limit=100 Bill
Schu
Your asking a very subjective question... is it good enough. I think only you can answer that, I suspect that because you are asking that it is probably good enough. Is there advantages to be realized, probably... is it necessary, probably not.
