K-61-k horn to k-55-v adapter

So there is tons of adapters out there, some have great reviews and some have terrible reviews. Can anybody tell me the best adapter to mount my new to me k-55v drivers onto my k-61-k horns? I’m dying to hear these so I want to throw them in my chorus ii. I’m collecting parts to put a parted out pair of Cornwalls that a friend gave me back together that I plan on using these in eventually. From my little understanding of crossovers the chorus ii mid starts around 600hz so the k-55 should be a good match for the horns and crossover. So please help with a bolt on screw on adapter to make this work. Also I’m sure this has been answered before but, I wasn’t able to find it so don’t yell at me please!😁

Thanks.

They have discontinued the Selenium 25-25 that has been around.  I have some that might work.  But I doubt there is room to install an adapter and the screw on driver before running into the back of the cabinet.

You can send me an email.

Thanks Bob. Ok I’ll do that. Do you have these adapters? I couldn’t find them on your website.

I have an old thread with a link to some decent adapters I'll try and find it for you. The k-55's will easily fit on the k-61 in the Chorus II but not the forte II.

Perfect. Those are some that I ran across this am that I thought might work. Parts express has several options too. So you just drilled the 4th hole in these and the other 3 lined up? Did you notice a sound improved from k61 to the  k55?

I drilled all 4 holes out myself was pretty easy using the k-61 horn as a template after removing the driver there is two very small plastic tabs on the horn that need to be broken off for the adapter to sit flush, again very easy to remove.

The sound difference to me was an immediate improvement, the k-55 is a little more layed back I believe they are 2-3db less sensitive than the stock driver, the tone is a little deeper slightly bigger sound, not a huge La Scala type difference but somewhere in that direction. To me the overall balance of the speaker seemed to be improved mid range is less in your face but still detailed. It's worth doing in my opinion if you have the soldered lug k-55v's or the newer A-55g's from Crites.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread but I've got a related question regarding K55V vs K61K drivers.

I've got a set of 1974 Heresy 1's that have the K55V and I'll say the midrange is not great (poor might be more accurate). I replaced the capacitors on the crossovers and the sound improved, but I'm still not happy with it. I was looking at a couple of different threads that indicate that the driver on the K61 is the same with different horns in various speakers and then ran across this thread where the OP says that they expected the K55V to sound superior to the K61K in their Chorus speakers - which to me is reversed from what I would have expected.

I have a set of Quartets with the K61K driver and I was considering swapping it into my H1's to see if that improves the midrange performance, but then there is the question that was raised in this thread about using an adaptor to mate the horns to the other drivers. Does it make sense to try and swap drivers between the two in my case to see if the issue travels with the driver?

What is the expectation between these drivers. I think my K61K sounds amazing and my K55V sounds like it needs help. Installing new diaphragms might be in order, but I'd like to not plow additional dollars into the Heresy's if I'm not convinced that they are going to improve to the point where I will want to keep them. Any more money into them at this point can't be recovered if I sell them.

Whoa! I had to read back thru to remember what I was doing at this point in history. So I don’t remember giving the k55v on adapters enough listening time to give a review. What I ended up with is a pair of (I think) k-301 horns which are pretty much identical to k-61 horns except they are threaded and the k55v mounts right up. I really like them in this setup and believe that there was a definite improvement. I would think something is wrong with your k55 if they sound bad, possibly diaphragms, but idk, I think Crites talked about this topic some on his website. I’m not sure if you want to throw parts around, but I’d say leave your quartets as they are since you’re happy with them. Investigate the k55 to see what might be wrong with them. Have you heard other Heresy you liked? Maybe that sound isn’t for you? Also, what are you driving them with?

I haven't heard any other H1's except these. I did listen to some new IV's recently and they sounded phenomenal. I own/owned RP-160M's, KG4's, Quartets, H1's and a set of CF1's.

I didn't like the CF1's and sold them pretty quickly without trying to do anything to improve them. I still own all the others. All of the others sound good to very good except the H1's are off kilter. Someone on one of the FB Groups said that the gaskets were a problem on theirs, so I have a set on order.

I've had them on three different receivers. Pioneer SX-650, Realistic STA-2300 and Sony DA3ES.

.1st step , remove the screws  .... gently separate the top  plate ,  clean the Voice coil area  of the driver  , and inspect the  windings of the VC    ,  retest .......any amelioration ?
