justplainlawr
I've seen both on sale for black Friday and Boxing Day sales, the R-120SW going for $500 CAD and the R-12SW going to $400 CAD. Can't find anywhere online that discusses the differences between the two of them. Can anyone shed light on the difference between the two? Is there a technical difference other than the finishing on the cabinets?
wuzzzer
They are the essentially the same. The R-120SW is the newer version. The R-120SW has copper colored screws around the woofer to match the newest Reference line. They have the same rated frequency range and amplifier output. No real advantage going one over the other unless you specifically want to aesthetically match any other Reference speakers you may be using. justplainlawr
I had purchased both to compare... the R120SW sounds a little fuller but everything looks like it's built the same. Just a $100 more expensive for the newer model. I had sent in a support email but haven't heard back yet.
wuzzzer
Did you have them both hooked up at the same time to do an A/B test between them? Did you have them in different locations in your room when you tested them? If so, place whichever sub you decide to keep in the spot where the one sounded fuller. Where you place your sub in your room has a huge impact on how it sounds and performs.
justplainlawr
yeah they were hooked up into the exact same setup, side by side. as consistent as you can get. settings exactly the same. the R120SW just walks away with a richer and more well rounded sound. wuzzzer
A lot of that difference could very well be the slight difference in their physical location in your room. That's why it's always best to experiment with a sub in several different places in your room to see where it sounds the best.
yaniBG
So, which do u think is the best of that two? I am confused which one to buy and need some help!
sohnez
You might want to open up the back and look at the amplifier components. The newer, more expensive R-120SW might have better components.
garcam1957@gmail.com
Check amazon prime The R-120SW sells for $ 374.00 The R-110sw is going for $ 249.00 a great sub that won't break the bank
tromprof
I have a couple of R-12SW that I bought for my summer rural place place for only $169 each at Costco. I think they do a great job considering the price. Things occasionally go "missing" there so at that price I can deal with it.
babadono
Is this a trick question? The "0"
Tofu1459
The 120SW woofer composition is copper spun IMG vs copper IMG on the 12SW, it is 1/16 wider, 1inch deeper and 2 lbs lighter probably due to different casing materials these factors will account for some sound difference but does it really account for the price difference? Probably not Edited February 20, 2021 by Tofu1459
