captjoe
running a Denon 6400 and have it set up as a 7.1.4 home theater. How do I choose the starting point for crossover setting to optomize in my denon receiver for each pair of speakers?
wuzzzer
Standard is 80Hz. Start there adjust up and down if you want to experiment.
spencersmb
@wuzzzer - Im just starting to learn what this all does, so when you say start at 80hz and go up or down - what I'm I supposed to be listening for? What should my sub be doing more of vs. the speakers etc... Thanks, Spencer
wuzzzer
You want the bass to be tight, not boomy. You don't want to be able to localize, or tell that there's bass coming from the sub. Too high of a crossover will do that. But, too low of a crossover can be a problem if your other speakers can't reproduce low bass frequencies really well. For instance, you might want to cross your smaller speakers at 100 or 120Hz. As effects speakers they aren't usually designed to handle low bass frequencies. Some set their center speaker crossover at 100 or 120Hz so that men's voices don't sound as boomy and resonant.
spencersmb
Ok that makes a lot more sense. Thanks @wuzzzer
