Home brew CW vert horn venner suggestions

Recommended Posts

Gonna redo these CW's I built some 17yrs ago.   I'm tired of the red mahogany gloss.   Will be upgrading the drivers as well per claudj1.  Woofer/tweeter only.   First i'm undecided about the motor board. Paint it black like Klipsch does or veneer in a near black tone of veneer like this one. Its called Wenge.

Next here are some veneers i'm looking at going with for the rest of the speakers.  First one I have my heart set on, but still just not sure if its maybe too dark.  What do you guys think about this two tone combo?

Here are the other tones I have picked out.

I will be changing my grill material as well to the off white lambs wool to go with the darker tones.

Some pics of the corns.   They are close together because they are currently in storage at my fathers.

The first is Italian ebony brown, then light ebony, then ziricote, then the last two are rosewood santo and I am trying to get away from the red tones, but I do like it.

Which one do you like the best?

Of the last 4 samples either the 2nd or 4th, in that order.

Those rosewood boxes are too pretty!

I think I like the 2nd one in the last set the best.

With the change in plans these will now be Cornscala's.   Oakwood veneer has added some more veneers to their collection.   Here's a few more i'm looking at right now.

My personal taste is for the slightly less contrasty woods... some figuring,  but not so black and white'ish... more tonal.

ok, i'm just the opposite.  I want to use something that matches the lambs wool grills i'm gonna use and think darker contrasting tones look good with them.   Looking for something that really pops.

you might like something more like maple, birch or oak. the second one is butternut.

Butternut, yum, vanilla walnut!

I do like the butternut, but I don't think I could get the wow factor with the light colored lambs wool grills.

Red Mohagany stain and 4 coats of gloss urethane.   Thanks.   I'm tired of the gloss.   Gonna do something different.
