oldtimer 12719 Posted March 4 Cold is cold. It is freezing here in a land not much equipped for it.
oldtimer 12719 Posted March 4 Oddly enough, fairly extreme heat is not so much of a problem. The only conclusion I can see is that cooling 100 plus is less of a strain than warming at 20.
Shiva 1134 Posted March 7 A rare and impressive lightening show over California the other night. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6776307/Evacuations-California-place-storm-approaches.html

MC39693 171 Posted March 7 @WMcD, your suggestion of Kelvin reminded me ... saw a documentary once where the Science folks froze things to such a low Kelvin temp ... they discovered a fourth state of matter it was neither liquid nor solid nor gas (for sure not gas at the low temp). But, I don't find too many appliances with Kelvin range on them, so I'll keep to Celsius or Fahrenheit which I can sometimes navigate. Calgary looking to get above Zero C next week, Yahooooo! JJkizak 875 Posted March 7 I actually prefer the Kelvin with an expanded portion in our normal daily life temperature range. JJK
wuzzzer 753 Posted March 7 Updated forecast for the weekend - 12+ inches of snow now. People are scrambling like crazy to remove the existing snow off their roofs. The upcoming snow is supposed to be extremely wet and heavy and will cause significant damage.
oldtimer 12719 Posted March 7 Oh man...We have been so lucky this year that the precip and sub freezing temps have not coincided.

wuzzzer 753 Posted March 10 I think we got about 10 inches of snow with this last storm. I just spent the last hour cleaning snow off people's cars, shoveling them out and pushing them out of our apartment building's parking lot. The lot was supposed to be cleared of cars by 9am for the plows to come in but I think a lot of people forgot to set their clocks ahead an hour last night because there's several still in the lot. Oh well, at least they won't have to brush the snow off their cars when they finally wake up.
WMcD 653 Posted March 10 Hmmm. The one shown is not suitable for arctic regions.

I think we got maybe 5-6", and the freezing rain didn't last long either.

JohnJ 5942 Posted March 11 I see blue sky! A link in the feed on my phone about local stuff had a weatherman... one of the decent ones here that said it's rained here for 77 days since September.
dtel 23513 Posted March 11 Warm all week and a chance of rain, all the plants are blooming and or sprouting leaves. I want to plant a vegetable garden but know that will bring on a freeze, I better wait a little longer?
dtel 23513 Posted March 14 Well, 75 for the last couple of days with a strong South wind but no rain yet. But right now at 11:25 pm the wind is still strong out of the South, headed to the Northeast and probably full of moisture,= more snow for the Northeast. MyOwn 2399 Posted March 15 Seen my first Robin today...No chit, Robin Birdies just appear from nothing... I have never seen migrations of Robin birds flying home for the summer... Anyway, flooding happening in CB_Omaha.

Robins generally migrate as a response to available food sources, and not temperature.
