Alex Tanase
Hey, I'm a bit of a newbie here. I own a Yamaha A-S501 amplifier and I've recently bought the RP-160M Reference Premiere bookshelf speakers, rated 8 ohm. The amplifier has an impedance switch (see attachment taken from Google Images) and I'm not sure which of the settings would be applicable here. It says LOW - at least 4 ohm or higher / HIGH - at least 6 ohm or higher. Well that's clarifying. I've found nothing helpful in the manual, let alone the internet where everyone seems to set it as they please. So I'm using only channel A. What is the correct impedance, low or high?
wuzzzer
You'd be fine either way. They're not a speaker that's difficult for an amplifier to drive.
willland
@Alex Tanase, Welcome to the forum. I say set it and forget it at LOW and enjoy. That Yamaha integrated has plenty of horsepower/torque for it's price point and should have no issues driving the RP-160Ms. Bill
MeloManiac
Connect them on channel A, then listen to both low and high and choose what sounds best for your ears and the room. Verstuurd vanaf mijn 5047U met Tapatalk

Alex Tanase
I honestly had no idea impedance has any effect on sound quality. Does it? Thank you for all your kind advice!
glens
I think that switches like that typically provide alternate internal configurations so the amplifier can better handle situations that bring it "closer to the edge." It most certainly won't hurt to give both settings a whirl. If you notice any difference and prefer one way over the other then you've got your answer. JamesD1957
I have the A-S500 with RP280f's. I have mine set on high because they're 8 ohm, and I'm not using a "B" set of speakers. They sound great!
