Schu
Much sadness... http://www.petertork.com Peter passes at age 77 Peter Tork, a blues and folk musician who became a teeny-bopper sensation as a member of the Monkees, the wisecracking, made-for-TV pop group that imitated and briefly outsold the Beatles, died Feb. 21. He was 77. His death was confirmed by his sister Anne Thorkelson, who did not say where or how he died. Tork was diagnosed with adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare cancer affecting his tongue, in 2009. 1

Bosco-d-gama
As I recall it was Peter Tork who demanded that the group be allowed to actually play their own instruments and perform music.

DizRotus
RIP. Sounds like he courageously battled a rare form of cancer for nearly a decade. Hard to believe Hendrix once opened for Monkees.
Ceptorman
Also hard to believe they outsold The Beatles in album sales for a while.

codewritinfool
Yeah and Hendrix wanted off of that tour fast. He said the audience was full of moms and preteen daughters and none of them were having a good time. Seven shows. A story was invented that the Daughters of the American Revolution wanted him off. No truth to it. It did let him gracefully exit, though.
