PrestonTom
In my speaker building endeavors I have always been at a loss of where to find grille cloth that is both affordable and not the usual black, I have found a place online that might be worth a look, Fabric.com If you search on their selection of burlap you might see something that fits in with your wood finish etc. The cane cloth is always the most difficult and priciest. this might work. for instance, 47" Shalimar Burlap Oyster Fabric it looks transparent enough but I don't know whether it has enough stretch for it to be pulled tight so the cloth does not "flutter" in front of the woofer. I also don't know about shrinkage (if washed) or whether it smells like a barn. However, it is incredibly cheap and available. It might be a substitute for cane (definitely not a clone, but perhaps the same "look and feel") Again, I have not yet personally used it so I am not able to answer specific questions. Good Luck, -Tom
rockhound
Good find. I really like the new grill cloth on the Khorns and LaScala's, looks like a metal/fabric hybrid of some sort. Would love some of that stuff.
karlson3
I'd like to find something close the look of my Karlson's cloth - which looks just like what it had in its 1952 debut
PrestonTom
Interesting challenge. You might do a search on Fabric.com under fabric for costumes. There might be something that has that look and feel. The problem is the terms and vocabulary for fabric can be completely alien and you can spend hours following false paths. Nailbender
I use the Marshall cane grill cloth. It seems to work fine and is quite durable.
PrestonTom
I saw the Marshall product also. The prices I saw were pretty expensive (remember I am cheap son of a gun). It was nice looking and an interesting variety.

Looking at the suppliers website they may not be offered any longer, though.
PrestonTom
Quite unlikely that you will be able to find it. My best advice is to think about what features of the cloth are that you like (texture, color, high lights etc). Then go to the sites that have the cloth for Marshall and Fender amps, There will be some that have the features you like (however they will certainly not be identical). At best you will capture the "look and feel"
Dave S
I am also looking for suitable grill cloth for my build. Check out www.speakerbuilder.com for their options. They do have some cane designs and more colors than many other suppliers I have seen.
