karlson3
The first instance of PWK attending the Hotel New Yorker annual Audio Fair seems to be the fair of 1952 - with "Klipsch, Eastern Inc." KLIPSCH EASTERN, INC. 638 420 Madison Ave., New York 17, N. Y. Products: Klipschorn, Rebel loudspeaker. There were a lot of greats at that show in this list. (Its also when the Karlson enclosure was introduced.😀 ) The Klipschorn was well known in those days, and the Klipsch "Rebel" shown under new products in that magazine (AUDIO ENGINEERING) in 1950. http://www.aes.org/aeshc/pdf/how.the.aes.began/ae_4th-audio-fair-exhibitors.pdf
HDBRbuilder
Keep in mind that for many years Klipsch & Associates (the company) depended the MOSTLY upon "word-of-mouth" advertising and that the "print" advertisements tended to be small and only found in "audiophile" and popular "scientific" publications due to the expenses of advertising, especially during the early time period where the company tended more often to run into the "red" than into the "black" in the company ledgers. So, PWK spent more time visiting dealers to do demonstrations in those days and put in lots of flying time to accomplish that. At times the company could not even afford to pay wages and/or bonuses earned to some of its employees, who were given shares of stock in lieu of money. It was this way throughout the times between the beginning of the company into the early-to-mid 1960's. If it wasn't for Mrs.Belle's (PWK's first wife) teaching salary, even PWK would not have had "food on the table" a number of times during the company's early "struggling" years. 1
Moderators Travis In Austin Posted March 4, 2019 Moderators Share Posted March 4, 2019 @JRH The Historian, Curator has all of that info but I think they are busy getting the Paul W. Klipsch Research Library all set up so it will be ready for Membership Meeting and the Pilgramage.
JRH
Without a lot of research, Karlson3 is at least "very close"!
